The gala commemorated CCC’s 36 years of service to the Greater Houston community and was an opportunity to honor the donors whose support is making the New Horizons expansion project possible. This project will add nearly 24,000 square feet of program space to CCC, which will help the organization serve an estimated 5,000 more people a year, including atrisk children, older adults, people with disabilities, and low income families. The gala was chaired by Board Member Linda Wu, and KHOU Channel 11’s ShernMin Chow served as mistress of ceremonies. Celebrating New Horizons Gala

On Friday October 30 2015 CCC hosted its Celebrating New Horizons Gala atRoyal Sonesta in Houston The gala commemorated CCCrsquos 36 years of serviceto the Greater Houston community and was an opportunity to honor thedonors whose support is making the New Horizons expansion project possibleThis project will add nearly 24000 square feet of program space to CCCwhich will help the organization serve an estimated 5000 more people a yearincluding atshyrisk children older adults people with disabilities and lowshyincome families

The gala was chaired by Board Member Linda Wu and KHOU Channel 11rsquosShernshyMin Chow served as mistress of ceremonies Guests were treated tomusical performances by a Houston Symphony string quartet vocalist Victoria

Ma and a choir composed of youth and seniors from CCCrsquos programs Theywere also greeted by a surprise flash mob that performed a synchronized danceto a medley of pop hits before leading the way into the ballroom which helpedset the stage for an evening of fun and celebration

Thank you to all of the individuals and organizations that supported CCC in2015 and helped make the Celebrating New Horizons Gala atremendous success

Champions of Philanthropy

CCC thanks Hu Shao Lean and Cecilia Sze for their incredibly generous pledgeof $600000 to the New Horizons expansion project Through this projectCCC will build a twoshystory facility that will include a multipurpose auditoriumand community space that will be available for public use CCC will recognizeMs Hu and Ms Sze for their contribution by naming the new auditorium intheir honor

The Year of the Monkey is Almost Here

On Saturday February 6 2015 CCC will present its Lunar New Year Festival amulticultural celebration featuring food fun and festivities for the entirecommunity The festival which will run from 1000 am to 400 pm at 9800Town Park Drive in Houston will commemorate the Year of the Monkey and isexpected to attract over 12000 visitors

The festival will feature attractions activities and entertainment for the entirefamily Martial artists dancers and musicians from diverse culturalbackgrounds will delight audiences with vivid and stunning performancesthroughout the day A marketplace will entice visitors with authentic Asiancuisine along with toys games clothing and souvenirs Visitors of all ages willbe able to experience and engage in traditional Asian arts and crafts includingorigami Chinese calligraphy and Chinese painting The festival will alsofeature a raffle drawing with tantalizing prizes

The 2016 Lunar New Year Festival is funded in part by a grant from theHouston Arts Alliance and is sponsored by

Improving Safety for Pedestrians

In a joint project by the Southwest Houston Redevelopment Authority and theCity of Houston sidewalks have been extended along Corporate Dr and TownPark Dr right where CCC is located This is great news for our clients sincethe sidewalks will improve pedestrian safety for community residents youthand older adults as they walk to CCC and to nearby grocery stores healthservices and restaurants

The new sidewalk will also allow Houston METRO to bring a Blue Line to thearea for more convenient public transportation for clients who have limited tono access to a personal vehicle

ldquoTherersquos no greater reward than connecting with peoplerdquo said Michael Brownone of CCCrsquos volunteer teachers Every Wednesday for the past two and a halfyears Mr Brown has been generously donating his time in order to teachEnglish to seniors The class he teaches at CCC helps seniors with limitedEnglish proficiency improve their English skills so they can find meaningfulwork and thrive in American society

As a longtime volunteer with other nonprofit programs in Houston includingMeals on Wheels and the University of St Thomasrsquo Literacy Initiative ForToday (LIFT) Mr Brown wanted to find additional opportunities to work withpeople from diverse cultural backgrounds He first heard about CCC when heread about its cultural activities in the newspaper He then visited CCCrsquoswebsite to learn more about its volunteer opportunities

While his students often refer to him as the ldquobest teacherrdquo Mr Brown hasfound the volunteer experience at CCC to be just as meaningful for him ldquoSince

ldquoTherersquos no greater reward than connecting with peoplerdquo said Michael Brownone of CCCrsquos volunteer teachers Every Wednesday for the past two and a halfyears Mr Brown has been generously donating his time in order to teachEnglish to seniors The class he teaches at CCC helps seniors with limitedEnglish proficiency improve their English skills so they can find meaningfulwork and thrive in American society

As a longtime volunteer with other nonprofit programs in Houston includingMeals on Wheels and the University of St Thomasrsquo Literacy Initiative ForToday (LIFT) Mr Brown wanted to find additional opportunities to work withpeople from diverse cultural backgrounds He first heard about CCC when heread about its cultural activities in the newspaper He then visited CCCrsquoswebsite to learn more about its volunteer opportunities

While his students often refer to him as the ldquobest teacherrdquo Mr Brown hasfound the volunteer experience at CCC to be just as meaningful for him ldquoSince
