Dear Parents and Students,

Thank you for your interest in the Dual Enrollment Program at Calvary Chapel Christian School. By

enrolling in Dual Enrollment courses, your child will be able to earn college credit and high school

credit at the same time. In addition to preparing your child for college success, this opportunity can save

them thousands of dollars in college tuition.

These courses are optional and require an additional cost for tuition and fees. Your child must meet the

qualifications of the program to be accepted.

The Christian Universities we have partnered with share our vision of giving the best opportunity for our

students to develop a strong intellectual and moral character, and a Biblical perspective on the total

world view. We desire our students to be Christlike influences in the world doing everything is such a

way that pleases Him.

If you have any questions pertaining to our Dual Enrollment Program you may contact

Mrs. Davis at [email protected].

In His Grace,

Pastor Ed Arcalas

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment courses allow qualified high school students to enroll in college level classes that earn both high school and

college credit at the same time.

What are the qualifications to be enrolled in Dual Enrollment courses?

Be in the 10th-12th grade

Meet 3.2 GPA

Meet with guidance counselor

Earn qualifying score on Math or English placement test, if required

Earn qualifying score on SAT’s (only applies to UNWSP)

Please refer to the specific university and inquire with the CCCS Dual Enrollment Coordinator.

When do students complete coursework?

On-line courses:

Students will work on their On-line Dual Enrollment courses during an assigned period in the school day. The online classes

are led by the university instructor and a CCCS teacher provides support and guidance. If coursework is not completed during

the school day, it is the student’s responsibility to complete their work at home and submit their assignments when it is due. It

is important for students enrolled in On-line Dual Enrollment courses to be diligent and maintain good study habits as their

grade will remain on their permanent college transcripts.

On-site courses

We also offer a limited selection of CCCS taught dual enrollment courses. These courses are taught by CCCS faculty using

our school’s curriculum. Students in CCCS taught dual enrollment courses will be given college level coursework that is to

be completed when instructed in class or at home as homework.

Are Dual Enrollment courses transferable?

The universities we have partnered with are regionally accredited; therefore most universities that accept transfer credits

should accept the dual credits. Some courses may not be accepted within the student’s area of study. It is the student’s

responsibility to contact the appropriate college or university to see if the Dual Enrollment course(s) will be accepted.

How many Dual Enrollment courses can students take?

Students are limited to taking two dual enrollment courses a semester unless approved by the CCCS Administration.

What is the difference between Dual Enrollment courses and Advanced Placement courses?

AP courses require students to pass the AP exam at the end of the school year in order to receive college credit. Dual

Enrollment courses grant credit based on the completion of the course with a passing grade of “C” or better. The grades

students receive in Dual Enrollment courses are permanent and will appear on both high school and college transcripts.

REMINDERS

TEXTBOOKS FEES

On-line courses

Students enrolled in on-line Dual Enrollment courses will also be expected to purchase the assigned

textbook for the university course which they are registered in. Please inquire for more detailed

information on the materials required for a particular course.

On-site courses:

Students enrolled in on-site Dual Enrollment courses will be using the school curriculum which is

covered in the CCCS student text book fees

CREDIT AND GRADING

Final grades for Dual Enrollment courses will be reflected on both the student’s high school and college

transcript and on the college’s permanent record. Because Dual Enrollment coursework becomes a

permanent part of the student’s college transcript, it is important for students to be diligent and maintain

good study habits in these courses: the grades earned under dual credit are permanent and cannot

be removed from a student’s academic record.

GPA

Dual enrollment courses will be weighted in the calculation of the student’s grade point average (GPA)

on a five point scale. (A=5 points, B=4 points, C= 3 points, D=2, F=1). When applying for colleges,

please note that the weighted GPA is different from the student’s unweighted GPA. When looking into

colleges, inquire if they will be looking at your weighted GPA or unweighted GPA.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

Students must maintain a 3.2 GPA or above in order to stay in the Dual Enrollment program. The

universities we have partnered with are committed to ensuring that Dual Enrollment students experience

the same level of instruction, resources, and rigor that traditional college students receive. Students are

expected to be grounded in the Word of God, determined to succeed, and be independent in his or her

work and study habits. Since students in the Dual Enrollment program will be treated equally as college

level students, it is important that they are prepared for the challenges of the college level coursework.

REFUND POLICIES

Please refer to the university your child is enrolled in for information on their refund policy. Payments

are made directly to the university. Calvary Chapel Christian School is not responsible for handling any

payments or refunds for Dual Enrollment courses.

Vision

Grand Canyon University is a premier Christian university educating people to lead and serve.

Mission

Grand Canyon University prepares learners to become global citizens, critical thinkers, effective

communicators and responsible leaders by providing an academically challenging, values-based

curriculum from the context of our Christian heritage.

The curriculum at GCU is designed to prepare students with the skills and knowledge needed in the

contemporary job market. Students are challenged to develop these tools and to push their intellectual

limits in order to become successful in their careers.

In addition, the curriculum fosters personal discovery so that students realize within themselves the

elements of compassion and accountability. A uniquely important element of the GCU mission

statement is the defining attribute of its Christian heritage. The GCU community defines its culture by

the way its members reflect a committed relationship with Christ and creates the GCU experience in a

manner that reflects His teachings to support students and graduates through a successful life journey.

These normative Christian values are integral to the development, maturity, and education of ethical and

morally respectable citizens who continue on the path of life-long learning. Each element or objective of

the GCU mission statement is uniquely addressed in the GCU curriculum and by the GCU culture,

which shapes a rich learning environment from which students graduate with professional and life

skills.

When learners graduate from GCU, our expectation is that they will be global citizens, critical thinkers,

effective communicators, and responsible leaders.
