BEST PRACTICE –II
Title of the practice: MID DAY MEALS.
Objective: To increase the pass percentage and provide healthy food to the students.
Context:
To maintain study hours in our college and to improve the pass percentage we have been implementing this program for past three years. The staff members realised that most of the students were coming from distant places and were not bringing lunch boxes. The then principal Dr. Prameela and Nss Coordinator Balagangadhar encouraged the staff members to take initiation in starting this program and all the staff members voluntarily came forward and contributed money to run this program.
Practice :
The staff club secretary collects the money that is voluntarily given by the staff. A committee is constituted to run this programme . Each class has a ward counsellor who gives the number of students who would be taking mid day meal that day. The convenor consolidates the figure and orders the attenders to cook for that many number of students. Coupons are given to ward counsellors who inturn distribute them to students. The students who come along with coupon are served with mid day meal by the staff. Over 400 students are presently getting the benefit. The system of coupons have been introduced to curb the wastage of food and also to see that only students are benefitted.
Evidence of success:
The programme is benefitting the poor and needy students who are coming from distant places and it is helping us to continue the study hour schedule and is improving pass percentage.
