Volunteers in American Policing, 1999 - 2013", waspublished in Police Quarterly. This study describes changesin the use of sworn volunteers among the nation’s local lawenforcement agencies and identifies those state-levelcertification, community, and agency characteristicsassociated with agencies using such volunteers in 2013. LawEnforcement Management and Administrative Statistics datafrom 1999 through 2013 were analyzed to document trendsin both the number of sworn volunteers and the prevalenceof agencies using sworn volunteers.

The second article, " Progress toward national estimates of police use of force", was publishedin PLOS One. This research builds on three decades of effort to produce national estimates of theamount and rate of force used by law enforcement officers in the United States. Prior efforts toproduce national estimates have suffered from poor and inconsistent measurements of force, small and unrepresentative samples, low survey and/or item response rates, and disparatereporting of rates of force. The present study employs data from a nationally representativesurvey of state and local law enforcement agencies that has a high survey response rate as wellas a relatively high rate of reporting uses of force.

CCJ on the MoveDr. Christopher Campbell co-authored a journal articlein Justice Evaluation Journal entitled "Evidence-based or justpromising? Lessons learned in taking inventory of statecorrectional programming". As policy makers require moredetail justifying rehabilitation expenditures, officials must takeinventory on available programming and extant evidence.Unfortunately, little research can be drawn from to aidcontextualizing and guiding this process. Using one stateexample, we report a legislative proviso which sought toinvestigate current and future use of correctional services.Through the lens of Risk-Needs-Responsivity, this paperdescribes packaging research into digestible ways for policydiscussions, and concludes with policy implications andguiding principles for other jurisdictions.
