Without Device Mobility • PSTN call uses
“Home” gateway
• Location CAC is unaware of the call
• G.711 codec uses more WAN bandwidth
• “Home” Site’s Media Resources are selected (e.g. CorpHQ CFB would be used)
• AAR would be anchored on the home gateway

PSTN
With Device Mobility • PSTN call uses “Roaming” gateway • Location CAC is aware of the call • WAN bandwidth is
not consumed • Proper Media Resources are
selected • AAR outgoing calls would be
sourced on the new site’s GW; incoming calls will fail (as they should)

Device Mobility • Determines that the device has moved to new location based
on the device’s IP subnet • Dynamically associates “roaming” device pool to devices that
move to a different location • Determination to extend certain features are based on the
following parameters: – Is the device roaming outside of it’s Physical Location?
• If NO, then NO updates to the IP Phone’s settings are updated • If YES, then is it roaming within it’s Device Mobility Group?
– If YES, then ALL parameters of visited Device Pool get passed to IP Phone – If NO, then SOME of the parameters of visited Device Pool get passed to IP Phone – See next slide for breakdown

Device Pool Parameters Updated
• Is the device roaming within its Device Mobility Group (Country)? – If Yes, then all of these visited Device Pool parameters get updated:
