Middle School Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (PASS) PASS is the statewide assessment for grades 3 - 8 in writing, English language arts (reading and

age of our students who received scores of “met” or “exemplary” compared to students
meeting these standards in the entire Charleston County School District.
Excellence Welcome to SOA. We have a diverse population that is represented by students from every corner of
Charleston County. Our current enrollment sits at approximately 1050 wonderful students. We strongly believe
that the culture and climate within our school community provides an experience that supports our expectation of
personal best student performance at the School of the Arts. Student achievement is exemplified through a per-
fect blend of academic and artistic excellence in a unique sixth through twelfth grade setting.
We at School of the Arts, not only believe that dreams can come true, but we regularly turn our dreams into
reality. Students, staff and parents alike work as a team, focused on accomplishing common goals. Shared dedica-
tion, passion, creativity and collaboration are required to achieve and meet our goals.
School of the Arts students are recognized nationally and within our state for peak performance in the academic
arena. Our test scores regularly place us among the elite. We firmly believe this is directly connected to our
equally recognized arts programs focusing on comprehensive arts instruction for our highly talented students who
act, sing, dance, design, build, write with flair and play music. We regularly pool and integrate our talents in order
to create school programs, shows and performances like no other. Each day we work to
provide a backdrop which allows all of our students to become shining stars.
Together, we have the opportunity to be a part of an educational experience that is exceptional. Your involve-
ment with this fine school signifies that you value true excellence in education. We certainly hope you will con-
tinue to enjoy your time at our school, revel in the beauty of artistic & academic performance and the opportunities provided for our students.
School Improvement Council—Nancy Miramontes, Chair 2010-2011 Goal: “We will follow within the mission of SOA to empower our students with an active voice for supporting our continuous growth and development.”
