VBC DASHBOARD is a customizable solution presented to today’s knowledge workers that consoli-dates and integrates data whether personal, departmental or even external into one single portal. It brings a consolidated view of an organization’s knowledge sources to the end user & provides immediate access to key business information.

The highly user-friendly dashboard uses the latest Rich Internet Application (RIA) technologies and empowers each user with a role-based-access and custom defined tabs thus tailoring the applications accord-ing to his field of interest.

Content management, reporting and media are examples of applications hosted in pods and available on the two VBC Dashboard versions, the web and the desktop. Those applications can work separately or together to create powerful vertical solutions.

VBC Dashboard’s ultimate aim is to create paperless offices where data and individuals connect anywhere and at any time. VBC Dash-board is now deployed in multi-million dollar projects of over 40 countries worldwide and covering an array of disciplines such as oil and gas, construction, education, health, safety and environment.

User Authentication

VBC Dashboard’s security architecture allows two methods of private access to users; either by using their company’s Windows domain account, or by logging their credentials separately through the VBC authentication mode.

When using a Windows based authentication, a “Pass Through” feature is integrated to extract the Windows account credentials of the user and to then validate his or her eligibility to access the application.

In the event that a user is not part of the organization’s network VBC Dashboard grants him a limited public access to its own system and authenticates him as a “Guest” where pre-defined rules and content is granted.

Dashboard Administration and Role Based Access

Each Dashboard has a dedicated super user (referenced here as the Dashboard Administrator). The administrator is responsible for handling major operations. One of which is the ability to manage layouts. More specifically, an administrator can add, delete and configure view and access rights for the tabs editting and assigning pods’ types. Another operation for the dashboard administrator is enabling the Public Access Mode, configuring gadget layouts, data sources and settings.

Accordingly, the Dashboard administrator has full control over what the normal user can see.

Composition

VBC Dashboard’s main layout is user driven with a friendly interface composed of TABS containing PODS.A pod is a window-like wireframe that hosts an application, image, or other media within it. The hosted content within a pod is referred to as a gadget. Dashboard users can easily manage the visual composition of their personal gadgets by dragging, maximizing and minimizing pods to best fit their needs.

In an aim to provide users with a unique individual identity, they are permit to personalize their Dashboard in 2 ways.

Users can either choose between a set of default themes and banners shipped with the dashboard:

Profile Customization

Users are offered personal profile menus, “My Profile”, w h i c h ca n b e a c c e s s e d through the global menu. It allows them to change their passwords, assign them-selves a profile image and much more.

Or tailor existing ones by creating color pallets andbanners.

Gadgets

Gadgets are applications loaded within Dashboard pods, which, in turn, provide the wireframe that defines the gadgets’ position and layout within a tab.

In addition to default gadgets, the Dashboard can host custom developed gadgets that allow extensible customiza-tion and powerful functionality.

These gadgets empower employees to perform day to day tasks of various types including those shipped by default within the Dashboard and those custom created by users.

Visual Byblos Cyberspace (VBC) is a document management and collaboration application that enhances the communica-tion between team members and facilitates the exchange of information and documents.

Document Control Gadget

This gadget can contain one or more tabs; each of which can either a search page or a document browser.

The document browser:Displays a list of documents based on the users’ Access Control List (ACL), retrieved either from saved search queries or from a folder within the hierarchy gadget.Each document displays its state, fields and properties in the workspace. Users can view the document’s attachment even if it is a PDF file where a previewer will be used to allow page–by-page navigation (enhanced performance).Users with the proper credentials can update a document by either editing its existing version or by creating a new one (check out; check in as a new version or the same version). Users will still be able to view versions of edited documents.The document browser can download attachments, export to Excel a set or subset of the document listing.This gadget is also available in advanced versions allowing users to group and sort according to the document’s fields and properties.

The search mode allows user to search transmittals, and all documents based on fields, properties and attached file content. The search mode can also save search results and criteria to be displayed later in the document browser.

Team Workroom

Members of a workspace can use this gadget to create a Team Workroom where they can invite other members and add documents. They can also provide all the invited users with the ability to annotate and edit those docu-ments collaboratively.Users are granted temporary access to the document once moved to the Team Workroom.

Document Creation

A VBC document consists of common fields such as the reference ID, version number, file attachment, as well as a set of customizable properties. It can be associated with workflow triggers and secured via an access control list. This gadget empowers users to create VBC documents through supplying their metadata, properties, hierarchy location and permissions in a user friendly interface.

Reporting & Data Visualization Gadgets

Chart Gadgets

The Dashboard is empowered by a rich business intelligence reporting engine, where the user can analyze multiple chart types and hence visualize data allowing better and quicker business decision making. The Dashboard user has the ability to navigate from summarized data into a more specific level of information by employing the Multi-levels (Drill Down) technique. In order to provide users with maximum usability, the VBC Dashboard was supplied with a built-in Crystal report viewer permitting the users to view reports without having to install the application on their machines.

Pivot Chart

The VBC Pivot Chart is a powerful business intelligence solution. It retrieves data from SASS Cubes and displays them in dynamic tables and charts. The pivot chart is customizable and dynamic, provides fast calculations, supports drilling down and rolling up (slicing and dicing the cubed) and can also be used to generate user-specific reports.

Gauges

The Gauges Gadget is a powerful report-ing gadget that allows users to track important fluctuating data stream in real time. This is achieved by monitoring various types of miniature gauge-like indicators which are custom configured by the dashboard administrator.Gauges can be used to present data in a visually intuitive and attractive way.

Reporting & Data Visualization Gadgets

Organization Gadget

The Organization gadget can model and present hierarchal data such as Employee Structure. Its features include:

Multiple model relationships. Ability to skip levels. Drill Down/Up from one organization chart to another by clicking on nodes. (Example: drilling down into a department). Zooming, Panning, and Instant Filtering on all the nodes. Each node can contain a text and an image. The users can also access additional information for each node.

Custom Reporting

By using complex yet powerful SWF Authoring tools, custom reporting of complex data structure and models is attainable.These custom reports can cater for sophisticated business intelligence needs where data is linked to a live external data source (OLAP, SQL).

Business Process Management (BPM) related gadgets

My Forms

Each workflow is instantiated by filling and submitting a form; which will be available in the “My Forms” list.

My Inbox

After instantiating a workflow, a series of tasks need to be completed in order to successfully finish the workflow. The item "My Inbox" displays a series of tasks pend-ing the user's completion. Once a task is selected, a form is opened and upon successful submission of the form, the task is completed.

My running Workflows

Similarly, "My Running Workflows" returns a list of running processes or work-flows in the system. Upon clicking on one of those items, the workflow is displayed and the user has the ability to track the progress of the workflow he instantiated and contributed in.

DPMS: Document Process Management System

DPMS is a design process management system. It defines a workflow that enables users to submit drawings or designs, and to package them for annotation, redlining, commenting, and collaboration. The workflow, then, moves to a stage of comment consolidation and review to issue and approve a final version of the submission.

Wind Energy: BI Solution

The Wind Energy BI solution is developed to turn the volumes of data collected from different Masts’ sensors, and installed on various sites into meaningful information. That information is analyzed and provided to decision makers who take the right actions accordingly. Decisions revolve around optimizing the environment to generate the maximum amount of energy. This is done after analyzing wind speed, direction, and humidity. In specific, the BI solution provided offers a consolidated and comprehensive suite of data analytics in order to assess data measurements from a number of angles accompanied by visual dynamic charting and using Dashboard as a front end.

ETS: Equipment Tracking System

The ETS vertical on Dashboard is designed to monitor and control equipment and vehicles outfitted with data and location-posting devices. This solution provides a graphical representation of available equipment and their associated data such as speed, RPM, fuel consumption and information on the operators of manned vehicles.

iRisk

iRisk is a Project Risk Management System that automates the risk process. It starts with the initiation phase and walking through identi-fication, assessment, response planning, till the review, control and project closeout. Using Dashboard’s powerful reporting tools, users will have a customized view of the areas of concern which include the number of risks and their distribution.
