Our Course System

The Carl Duisberg Training Centers in Berlin, Cologne, Munich and Radolfzell offer German courses at the six levels of the CEFR – from A1 to C2. The language skills that participants acquire in our courses are measurable and comparable according to inter-national standards.

Before the start of each course, we conduct a placement test and a personal interview to determine your language level. You then attend courses in that level and can set and monitor your personal language learning goal using the following diagram.

03

Four Carl Duisberg Course Locations

Our four Training Centers are located in the capital Berlin, the Rhine metropolis Cologne, the home of the Bavarian Oktoberfest Munich, and in Radolfzell on Lake Constance, near Switzer-land. Each course location has its own unique charm and specifi c advantages. Participants can select one city or, if booking a longer course, can select a combination of several locations. So they can experience Germany’s diversity. After at least four weeks at one course center, it is possible to switch to a diff erent Carl Duisberg Training Center.

Carl Duisberg Training Center BerlinThe Carl Duisberg Training Center Berlin

is located in the city’s “Mitte” district, right in the heart of the capital, in a quiet, inner courtyard. We are within walking distance of landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate, the Gendarmen-markt and the Reichstag building. The lively street Friedrichstrasse is perfect for leisurely strolls, and the Hanns Eisler Music Academy and Humboldt University are just around the corner.

The Carl Duisberg Training Center is close to public transport and is easily and quickly acces-sible from all parts of the city. The school has 19 classrooms, a “Lernstudio”, a small Internet café and a recreation room, which is a popular meeting place for our language course par-ticipants.

Carl Duisberg Training Center Cologne

The Carl Duisberg Training Center Cologne is centrally located on the edge of downtown Cologne. We are just a short walk away from the Rhine and Cologne Cathedral, the picturesque historic district, and the pedestrian zone for shopping. We are close to public transport, with subway and tram stations within walking distance.

Our language school in Cologne has 16 class-rooms, most of them air-conditioned, and a “Lernstudio”. The cafeteria has vending machines serving hot and cold drinks as well

as snacks, plus a microwave. There is a public college cafeteria nearby, as well as numerous inexpensive cafés and restaurants.

Carl Duisberg Training Center MunichThe Carl Duisberg Training Center Munich

is located in the west near the city center. It is close to public transport and to the University of Applied Sciences. Munich University, the Schwabing student district and the English Garden are also nearby.

Our training center has 15 seminar rooms, a “Lernstudio” and a party room. We have ven-ding machines for hot and cold drinks as well as a cafeteria serving snacks and drinks in the mornings for our international students.

Carl Duisberg Training Center Radolfzell on Lake Constance

The Carl Duisberg Training Center Radolfzell is located next to a beautiful park, the “Stadt-garten”, with a view of the old town. With a population of only around 30,000, the small town is particularly suitable for young language course participants and anyone looking to learn in a small town environment where practically everything is within walking distance.

The training center is also located near the lake and close to Switzerland, Austria and the Black Forest. There are numerous excursion destinations and leisure activities available nearby, in breathtaking natural

surroundings. Our language school has eight course rooms, a small cafeteria, a “Lernstudio”and a party room.

Accommodation and Additional Services

In addition to first-rate German courses, Carl Duisberg Centren also offers students various forms of convenient accommodation. Options include private accommodation (with a carefully selected homestay family or shared accom-modation), a room at one of our guesthouses, apartments and hotels.

We take great care in selecting accommodation for our course participants to meet their specific needs. All of our Carl Duisberg Training Centers are conveniently located for optimal access to public transport.

Private accommodation We offer homestay accommodation with Ger-man hosts (individuals or couples, with or wit-hout children) in a fully furnished single room, often including a television and Internet access. The bathroom and kitchen are normally shared with hosts and, in some cases, other guests. When several guests share the same host, we try to arrange the group so that the course

participants do not all speak the same native language. You may choose to include breakfast or half board (breakfast and dinner).

Another option is to stay in a single room in a shared apartment with other course participants and cook your own meals. Whichever private accommodation option you choose, you will definitely be able to put your newly acquired German language skills into practice.

GuesthousesOur guesthouses have a unique, international atmosphere. Students stay in simple, functional single or twin rooms and share a bathroom (shower/toilet) and kitchen with other guest-house residents. Our guesthouse in Munich is located in the Carl Duisberg Training Center itself, while in Radolfzell our guesthouse is easily reachable by public transport. In Berlin we arrange and book single rooms in various student dormitories.

ApartmentsWe offer fully furnished apartments for those seeking more privacy and independence. Our apartments include a living room, kitchen and bathroom which are all for your exclusive use.

HotelsWe would be happy to book a hotel room for you upon request. The prices vary according to location, category and season. Please feel free to contact us for more information.

Accommodation

Depending on the type of course, we offer various accommodation options in Radolfzell on Lake Constance. We take great care in selecting accommodation for our program participants to meet their specific needs and make them feel at home. This is especially important for younger participants, who are often spending their first holiday on their own away from home.

German Language Camps for KidsAdventure FarmParticipants stay together with their camp counselors at the “Lochmühle” adventure farm in Eigeltingen, about 20 minutes away from Radolfzell. “Lochmühle” forms part of a small recreational park, where there are family-friendly attractions and a petting zoo. Girls and boys sleep in separate group studios with private bathrooms. Bed linen is provided.

The farm has a homestyle restaurant where the participants and their camp counselors have breakfast and dinner together. The cooks carefully plan and serve balanced, freshly pre-pared meals. At lunchtime, participants and counselors usually eat at partner restaurants in town, and on the weekend we offer half board.

German Courses for TeensParticipants in this program either stay at the Carl Duisberg guesthouse or with a carefully selected homestay family. They receive full board on course days and half board on the weekend.

Homestay FamilyOur homestay families enjoy intercultural exchange and look forward to hosting inter-national course participants from all over the world in Radolfzell. Teens benefit from total immersion into the German culture. Homestay families are not always families in the traditional sense and include single people, single parents and groups sharing apartments. If multiple guests are staying in the same house, we make

sure that they do not speak the same native language.

Usually, guest students have their meals with the homestay family. On weekends they can often prepare small meals themselves, but general cooking facilities are not usually pro-vided. Times and eating habits may be unlike what students are used to at home. In Germany, breakfast and dinner are sometimes cold meals with bread, cold meats, cheeses and jam.

GuesthouseOur guesthouse is on the outskirts of Radolfzell in a quiet and easily accessible location. The rooms are simple and functional. Students have access to a shared bathroom (shower, toilet, sink) and a kitchen. We provide bed linen and crockery, and there is also a washing machine and dryer.

High School Program in Germany

Our High School Program in Germany com-bines foreign language learning with an extended stay abroad. Studying abroad is an important part of a well-rounded educational experience, where students gain insights into their personal development.

Our experienced education coordinators at the Carl Duisberg Training Center Radolfzell organize school placements for students, generally in the 9th or 10th grade. The school year consists of two six-month terms: The first term begins between August and September, depending on the German federal state, and the second in January/February.

School SelectionBased on the student’s personal and aca-demic profile, Carl Duisberg Centren seeks out a school to match individual interests and academic focus. We provide placements in public schools, private boarding schools (with school fees), as well as in schools that offer the International Baccalaureate.

Most of our partner schools are in the Lake Constance region. We are also happy to arrange for school placement in the cities of Berlin, Cologne and Munich.

Support at SchoolThe experienced team at the Carl Duisberg Training Center takes care of all communica-tion between schools and parents in advance. We are also available to answer any questions during the students' stay and make sure they receive comprehensive support. In addition, we compile regular progress reports detail-ing a participant‘s academic performance and behavior. While in Germany, students live with a German homestay family. We know all of the carefully selected homestay families personally, and maintain ongoing contact.

My year at school in Germany has been even better than I expected. I love my school, I love speaking German, and of course my homestay family – I’m really happy! Coming to Germany was the best decision I have ever made. Although I am looking forward to returning to Mexico, I really don’t want to leave.– Abril, High School Program in Germany

High School Preparatory Program

Attending a German school can be even more successful with additional preparation in the form of language courses and intercultural training. Carl Duisberg Centren offers a high-quality preparatory program which consists of an intensive German language course, a specialized math and science language course, English language training and a var-ied activity program.

German CourseStudents in the Preparatory Program learn German in small groups with other partici-pants from all over the world. Our competent language trainers give regular feedback on individual progress. In addition to group lan-guage training, the “Lernstudio” is a key com-ponent of the course. Here, students apply and deepen their language skills twice a week, where tutors and teachers are on hand to assist and give advice. Students who wish to enroll in the German Abitur program must have attained German skills at level B2 (CEFR) when starting school.

Specialized Language Course and English TrainingThe Sciences, in particular, are filled with many technical terms. Working in small groups,

students learn mathematical and scientific terminology and technical language structures starting at level B1. Since English is compulsory in German schools, English training is used to provide students with the language skills they need for their grade.

Activity ProgramWe offer a different activity program each week in which students can practice everyday con-versation in a relaxed atmosphere with other students. The program also allows participants some time to get to know their surroundings and settle in before the start of the school year.

Accommodation and SupervisionDuring the Preparatory Program, students stay with carefully selected homestay families in Radolfzell. This type of total immersion pre-sents the opportunity to experience everyday German family life. Apart from the homestay family, the Carl Duisberg Training Center team is also available during the students’ entire stay, should they have any questions.
