GEORGIA AQUARIUM ATLANTA, GA

CD+M consulted with program manager Heery International and concept designer Gary Goddard Enterprises to design and program specialty lighting for the 4-D theatre show, lantern wall, plaza and ballroom ceiling. Architectural lighting design was provided by Quentin Thomas and Exhibit Lighting was provided by Fisher Marantz Stone & Associates. The project was awarded a 2007 Lumen East award for the Exhibit lighting and a 2007 IIDA Award of Merit in Lighting Design. CD+M collaborated with lead A/V contractor, Electrosonic, to develop a sophisticated controls system which integrates lighting, audio and video throughout the areas in our scope.

COBB ENERGY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER ATLANTA, GA

On September 15, 2007, the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre became the first major arts facility to open in the Atlanta area in more than 40 years and serves as the new home of The Atlanta Opera. As the architectural lighting consultant for this $145 million project, CD+M developed a custom lighting concept that enhanced the dramatic and opulent design envisioned by Atlanta architects Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates, Inc. The state-of-the-art facility includes a 2,750-seat theatre, a special event space, 1,000 parking spaces, full-service food and beverage capabilities and rehearsal facilities. With the facility’s ground-breaking in January 2005 and a grand opening only two and a half years later, the design and construction teams completed this impressive project on time and under budget, a rare accomplishment for a major performing arts center.

MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL WASHINGTON, DC

At an estimated cost of $144 million, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Washington, become the first 5-Star facility in the Portals district. Catering to the elite business traveler, this Beaux Arts style, 400-room hotel offers impressive views of the Potomac tidal basin, the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument. Steeped in luxury, it includes a highly acclaimed 14,000 square-foot spa along with a 24,000 square-foot conference facility and two award-winning restaurants. In concert with the hotel group’s tradition, the building incorporates distinctively oriental architecture and design elements. The Mandarin Oriental Washington also focuses on a theme of the elements: Earth is represented by the terraced garden, Air by the kite installation above the swimming pool, Water by the marina itself and Fire is a feature incorporated in the CityZen restaurant’s open exhibition kitchen.

THEHOTEL AT MANDALAY BAY LAS VEGAS, NV

Located on the quiet beach at Brickell Key, the Mandarin Oriental Miami has been awarded the prestigious AAA Five Diamond Award for four consecutive years. Inspired by the diverse cultures of this sophisticated, cosmopolitan city, the interiors of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Miami incorporate tall ceilings and a variety of textures- dark woods, marble, bamboo, rice paper and glass. The hotel’s 15,000 square-foot spa features 17 private treatment rooms and was voted “Best Spa in the USA” by readers of Travel + Leisure magazine. Hilary Wainer participated in the design of this project under the direction of Paul Helms Associates.

SOVEREIGN TOWER ATLANTA, GA

An architectural marvel that soars 635 feet into the skyline, Sovereign is a 50-story high-rise tower on Peachtree Road in the Buckhead district of Atlanta. With 600,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and office space, this mixed-use urban designed project was designed by Atlanta-based Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart and Stewart and has won numerous accolades including a 2009 ULI Development Excellence Project of the Year award. CD+M provided architectural lighting design of the site, residential and office lobbies, 28th floor residential club and pool deck and façade. Custom poles located at the street level feature twin 4,000 watt spotlights which prominently light the south façade of the building which can be seen from more than 10 miles distance.

VOLKSWAGEN GLASERNE MANUFACTUR DRESDEN, GERMANY

The $190 million Glaserne Manufactur, or ‘Glass Factory,’ in Dresden, Germany, is a visual celebration of modern manufacturing. In the words of the architect, Gunter Henn, this is a “master craftsman’s atelier” with parquet floors, transparent glass walls, water features and an 80-foot wide sphere featuring a multimedia show by BRC Imagination Arts. In the atrium, City Design Group designed a system of theatrical trusses and lighting to support a variety of uses. CDG provided exhibit and specialty lighting, facility lighting consulting provided by Kardoff Ingenieure. The venue aims to give its visitors a hands-on and highly entertaining look at the craftsmanship of the Volkswagen brand through six attractions, including a “virtual test drive” motion simulator, a real-time “earth observatory,” and a touch screen exhibit that enables visitors to design a dream car then print its brochure, including the user’s own photo likeness next to the car. MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL NEW YORK, NY

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel New York is an exclusive development on the 35th to 54th floors of the Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle. Regarded among the best in Manhattan, the 250-room luxury hotel provides stunning views of Central Park, the Hudson River and the city skyline. The $85 million facility includes several chic, innovative restaurants, as well as a 14,000 square-foot luxury spa and a 7,000 square-foot conference center. Hilary Wainer participated in the design of this project under the direction of Paul Helms Associates.

INN OF THE MOUNTAIN GODS MESCALERO, NM

Marc Rosenberg, with architect and interior designer Worth Group, designed the Inn of the Mountain Gods resort and casino, which opened in March 2005. Situated high in the picturesque mountains of Mescalero, New Mexico, just outside of Ruidoso, the upscale property features 250 guest rooms, 26 suites, 38,000 square-feet of gaming space, 40,000 square feet of convention space and several restaurants. The resort’s dazzling lobby features a two- story panoramic window, as well as natural materials and warm tones that bring the understated luxury of the resort into harmony with its breathtaking surroundings. Owned and operated by the Mescalero Apache Tribe, the resort is the second largest employer in Otero County and has made great contributions to the economy of the reservation and neighboring communities.

M RESORT LAS VEGAS, NV

Encompassing more than 90 acres of prime real estate, M Resort is the latest addition to the glittering Las Vegas skyline. CD+M developed a lighting plan for the resort’s interior and exterior spaces - including a full-service spa, casino, nine restaurants and five bars - using a wide variety of modern technology to create color- changing coves and glowing, rear-illuminated panels. This blend of unique amenities and pop ambience ensures M Resort will provide guests with an unforgettable experience, both at present and in the future. The project was awarded a 2010 IIDA Award of Merit in Lighting Design.

FORD ROUGE VISITOR CENTER DEARBORN, MI

The Ford Rouge Factory Tour is a multimedia museum which introduces guests to the history of the Ford Motor Company using state-of-the-art projection systems, theatrical effects and a vintage collection of classic Ford cars. The facility received the 2004 Themed Entertainment Association award for Best Visitors Center and was certified LEED Gold by the USGBC, one of only 20 such projects in the U.S. in 2004. As an integral part of the overall Ford Rouge reconstruction project, the venue was featured in an issue of Architecture magazine.

DAGU BRIDGE TIANJIN, PRC

Completed in the spring of 2004, the Dagu Bridge is a new six-lane auto and pedestrian thoroughfare crossing the Haihe River in Tianjin, China. Conceptualized by Man-Chung Tang of T.Y. Lin International, the Dagu Bridge reflects a concept of the sun, moon and stars. Located in the center of Tianjin’s redevelopment area, the bridge is one of the first projects to emerge as part of the city’s major redevelopment plan.

THE MEYDAN JUMEIRAH DUBAI, UAE

Located at the Nad Al Sheba Racing Club in Dubai, The Meydan is the world’s first five star trackside hotel. The Meydan provides a prime location to catch the exhilarating action of the racing season, and creates a coveted travel destination all-year round. The Meydan offers 285 rooms and suites with balconies directly overlooking the racetrack, including one Royal Suite, and two Presidential Suites. It also has 5 luxury restaurants and bars, served in elegant settings with views of the racecourse.

FERRARI WORLD THEME PARK DUBAI, UAE

Master planned golf and residential community consisting of 13 planned residential communities offering residential living to more than 1,000 families. First two golf course designs will be completed by Greg Norman, Sergio Garcia, Pete Dye and Vijay Singh. CD+M scope consists of site lighting master planning including roadways, walkways, landscaping, iconic architecture, fountains and main entry areas.

ERIC PARIS SALON BEIJING, PRC

CD+M recently collaborated with GRAFT to expand the Eric Paris Salon in Beijing. The Eric Paris line was founded by world-renowned stylist Eric, who rose to fame as the owner of Studio 54, the largest chain of salons in the South of France. As the premier stylist for China’s high fashion industry, Eric Paris Salon is recognized for innovative styles and a luxurious environment. Located in the Kerry Center in Beijing, the expanded salon spans more than 3,200 square feet over three stories and boasts a color palette ranging from clean, chic whites to sensuous, fingernail reds.

MCALLEN CONVENTION CENTER MCALLEN, TX

Under the leadership of Atlanta-based Cooper Carry Architects, CD+M assisted in the design of a new quarters for the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology (HAIB) in Huntsville, Alabama.Warm wood finishes throughout the stunning five-story atrium are enhanced with ambient light in the evening, transforming this public space into an inviting common area for the staff to discuss ideas, collaborate and think creatively. The project was awarded a 2006 IIDA Award of Merit in Lighting Design.

PLANET HOLLYWOOD RESORT & CASINO LAS VEGAS, NV

Built upon the former Aladdin Casino on the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, the new Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino offers guests an opportunity to immerse themselves in a retro- chic world of Hollywood and celebrity culture. The elegant and visually sumptuous new property features floor-to-ceiling Swarovski crystal chandeliers at the casino entry lobby, 2,600 movie-themed rooms and suites, high definition plasma screens in each room and on the casino floor, award winning restaurants, a 7,000 seat theatre and a 1,500 seat showroom for high-end Las Vegas entertainment.

HOUSE OF BLUES DALLAS, TX

An anchor in the 75-acre, $3 billion+ Victory Park urban development area, the club includes a 1,625 seat music hall, a 400 person capacity restaurant which features distinctive Southern-inspired cuisine, unique décor built upon one of the largest collections of world-culture inspired folk art in the US, and the Foundation Room, House of Blues’ exclusive membership lounge, entertainment and fine-dining space. Dallas marks CD+M’s eighth House of Blues design, with completed venues in Atlantic City, Cleveland and San Diego, and several others currently in design.
