The team at CDMS began working on

providing a preliminary design and general

arrangement layout drawings for the facility.

CDMS provided recommendations to the client

for possible changes to the proposed layout

which ensured the design would be most

efficient to fit in with the client’s needs.

drawings for the contractor.

Design of Flocculent

Mixing Plant

CMDS engineers selected a suitable micro batch

feeder and calculated the dilute phase conveying

requirements. A custom vacuum hopper was

designed incorporating conveying through a

venturi eductor, with motive air supplied by a

side channel blower.

To prevent clogging of the system under the

local environmental conditions, a sealed hopper

was designed with discharge valve and trace

heating on the conveying line. On top of the tank

a custom high flow wetting head, designed in

house, ensured complete flocculent coverage

and prevented any ‘fish eyes’.

Bund Upgrades to BP

Civil design

Based on the scope of works and client

specifications, CDMS developed preliminary

design and general arrangement layout drawings

of the terminal which included a proposal for the

new bund walls to be made from precast concrete

panels instead of conventional in-situ concrete

walls.

Upon approval of the drawings, CDMS began

finalising the engineering design calculations and

produced engineering design drawings for tender

issue.

CDMS were commissioned by Forge to perform

the structural engineering for the Design of

Prevention of Falls Upgrades on Wells, Towers &

Tanks for Water Corporation throughout Western

Australia.

These included: 91 dry well wastewater pumping

stations, design and detailing of Prevention of

Falls Upgrades on 160 dry well wastewater

pumping stations design and detailing of

Prevention of Falls Upgrades on 34 dry well

wastewater pumping stations, 53 elevated tanks

and 5 dam intake towers.

The design of the new

140t batch plant was

started at concept

phase and developed

right through to detailed

design for fabrication.

CDMS supplied the

client with an

economical and reliable

solution to suit the

client’s physical space

limitations and their

budget.

The new batch plant design was required to

minimise cement handling time and provide a safe

structural design for personnel protection. The

turn-key cement batching system proposed by

CDMS was to be fully automated, minimising

operator input and increasing throughput.

CDMS were commissioned by Decmil Australia

to provide civil, structural, electrical and

mechanical engineering design and detailing

services for the Defence Fuel Installation (DFI)

remediation project at HMAS Stirling Naval Base

on Garden Island, Western Australia.

Challenges faced by CDMS included confirming

the new piping design to both defence design

specifications as well as Australian design

standards together, while still providing cost

savings for the construction contractor and the

end user.

Investigate the design of a

carbon reactivation kiln

The work required analysis of the current design

to establish if the arrangement was causing the

fatigue damage or if it was primarily a result of

process conditions.

The analysis conducted by CDMS specifically

included detailed static and combined stress

analysis of the retort assembly. Linear and non-

linear thermal heat transfer calculations and

associated thermal stress analysis for fatigue

damage assessment were included. The new

design recommendations were validated

through numerical analysis by CDMS to

relevant industry codes and standards.

Batemans Bay bridge

CDMS along with TCT Electrical Engineering

was engaged to implement improvements to the

bridge to simplify the operation and to combat

ongoing traffic incidents and delays. This

maintenance work was required to minimise a

breakdown of the lift span equipment and

minimise the potential for traffic congestion and

delays.

The work involved a total electrical fitout of the
