THE SETTLING OF THE GREAT PLAINS

Assignment: 10 points

Due: Friday

Text: Red Book: 392-396 Your Blue Book: 214-218

In the mid-1800’s, the Great Plains region was considered “the Frontier” or wild, undeveloped area of the U.S. In roughly 30 years after the Civil War, this region was rapidly transformed into a farming region as white settlers flocked to this part of the U.S. to take advantage of the Homestead Act which gave 160 acres free to anyone who would settle on the land and Cultivate it for 5 years. As a result, the “frontier” disappeared. Create a Diagram/web showing this settlement of the Great Plains.
