Family CornerHave you noticed the area that

has been created in the corner ofthe church for young ones andtheir parents?  We hope this spacewill make everyone feel welcome;one that all people, with or withoutchildren, will feel happy sitting in.  After all, a veryquiet church would also be a dead church, if it werechild‐free.  

Of course if parents need time outside of thesanctuary, the unstaffed nursery off the WebbLounge is always open for the wee ones and theirparents.  

Sunday School NotesSeptember 13th was the kick‐off for the Sunday

SAM4U (Sunday Mornings for Youth)(grades 6‐12) met on September 13th to discuss thetopics they would like to explore furtherthroughout the year.  The group is interested inlearning more about Moses, Islam and Christianityand Bible studies that relate to real life.  If anychurch members feel inspired to discuss any ofthese topics with the youth, please contactBreanne MacFarland at bmmacfarland@gmail.comor Rick Neu at fkneu@mac.com.

 

The Rt. Rev. Michael Bruce Curry, Bishop of the Episcopal

Diocese of North Carolina, was elected and confirmed to be the next PresidingBishop and Primate of The Episcopal Church at the 78th General Convention onJune 27.  Bishop Curry is the first African‐American to be elected Presiding Bishopand Primate of The Episcopal Church.  The Holy Eucharist with the Installation ofthe 27th Presiding Bishop will occur on November 1 at noon at WashingtonNational Cathedral. Trinity will be broadcasting the Installation via web‐cast inthe McClure room.

FlowersThe beginning of a new church season has given us the chance to

review how we decorate the church on Sunday mornings.   Chris Sears has offered to provide flowers each week from her

business, Fox Run Flowers (2041 Shelburne Falls Road, Hinesburg)We would encourage anyone who might  like to help arrange the

Salvation Army DinnerOn Monday, November 16, from 5:00 ‐ 6:00 p.m. we will be serving dinner at the Salvation Army. Set‐up

will start at 4:00 p.m. and clean‐up will finish around 7:00 p.m.On Sunday, November 15th we will prepare the meal at church on

following the 10:30 service coffee hour.  We usually start choppingand peeling and blanching and browning at around noon!  However,I am there with the veggies at 9:00 am and so anyone wanting to goto work after the 8:00 service, or before the 10:30 service, iswelcome to do so!  SAM4U is always welcome too!  Normally weserve about 60‐80 people, but in the past we have, on occasion,served over 100 people.  For some of them, this is the only meal theyeat all day.  For others, it is a way to make a tiny food budgets‐t‐r‐e‐t‐c‐h.

Many thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who make thisministry happen!  You are appreciated!  The Salvation Army feedsthe hungry every evening, 365 days a year.  The help that a widevariety of churches like Trinity offer really makes a difference.  They

have many other ministries open to those in desperate need and, with our help, they are able to spend alittle more on those ministries, including after school programs for children, which might otherwise bespent on food for supper.   — Peace,  Lori Wilson

The United Thank Offering (UTO) wasestablished in 1889 as the United Offeringby the Women’s Auxiliary to the Board ofMissions and primarily supported thework of women missionaries. UTO laterbroadened its emphasis to include allareas of the church’s work.

The United Thank Offering is a ministryto promote thankfulness and mission inthe whole Church. Known worldwide asUTO, the United Thank Offering grantsare awarded for projects that addresshuman needs and help alleviate poverty,both domestically and internationally inThe Episcopal Church.

The first "Joy of Cooking" session—canningtomato sauce—was held on Sundayafternoon, September 27, in Trinity’s largekitchen.  It was a huge success, as a familyfrom Harrington Village joined our Trinitygroup in the kitchen to chop, cook, stir andprocess vegetables, much donated byShelburne Farms under the leadership ofChristie Nold.

United Thank Offering

She searched us outafter church, toting apaper bag nearly burstingwith coins.  “I’ve beenclearing out” she said, as Iaccepted the weightybundle.  There are manyways a bag full of coins could be put to use, but thiscollection was to be an expression of thankfulness,and  it was a reminder that the “change thatchanges life” through the United Thank Offeringcan arrive in bags, or jars or Blue Boxes orenvelopes!  If your “clearing out” yields anabundance of coins, please thankfully rememberthe UTO.  And if your daily prayers of thanks haveaccumulated a bounty, the Fall Ingathering willhappen in November. Thank you to thefriend with the bag full of coins, other friends withtheir Blue Boxes of coins, and to all of you who areremembering to give thanks, and are preparing forthe Ingathering!

The Joy of Cooking Project: Camaraderie in the Kitchen

The Mayonnaise Jar & 2 Cups of CoffeeA professor stood before his philosophy class

and had some items in front of him.  When the classbegan, wordlessly, he picked up a very large andempty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it withgolf balls.  He then asked the students if the jar wasfull.  They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up abox of pebbles and poured theminto the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the openareas between the golf balls.  Hethen asked the students again if thejar was full.  They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up abox of sand and poured it into thejar.  Of course, the sand filled upeverything else.  He asked oncemore if the jar was full.  The students respondedwith a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups ofcoffee from under the table and poured the entirecontents into the jar, effectively  filling the emptyspace between the sand.  The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughtersubsided, " I  want you to recognize that this jarrepresents your life.

“The golf balls are the important things ‐‐ yourGod, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions ‐‐ things that ifeverything else was lost and only they remained,your life would still be full.

“The pebbles are the other things that matterlike your job, your house, and your car.

“The sand is everything else ‐‐ the small stuff."If you put the sand into the jar first," he

continued, "there is no room for the pebbles orgolf balls.  The same goes for life.  If you spend all

your time and energy on the small stuff, youwill never have room for the things that areimportant to you.

Pay attention to the things that are criticalto your happiness.

Play with your children.Take time to get medical checkups.Take your partner out to dinner.Play another 18.There will always be time to clean the

house and ‘fix the disposal’.“Take  care of the golf balls first ‐‐ the things

that really matter.  Set your priorities.  The rest isjust sand."

One of the students raised her hand andinquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.  "I'm glad you asked.  Itjust goes to show you that no matter how full yourlife may seem, there's alwaysroom for a couple of cups ofcoffee with a friend.

Coffee Hour: Sweets & TreatsCalling all snackers!  Those of you who love to eat can appreciate the

coffee and goodies after Sunday services. These treats also offer anopportunity to meet and greet one another. 

If you would like to help by bringing those sweettreats (and healthy snacks), please sign up to host acoffee hour (there are easy instructions). Sign up onthe calendar in the McClure Room (next to the kitchendoor).  The more people who participate, the better itgets.

As you can imagine, this needs a lot of coordination! This is why I urge everyoneto check to make sure a space is available before scheduling a meeting or event.  Youcan also write it in the reservation calendar in the office or contact me.

If you have forgotten to reserve a space you may not just “bump” someone outwithout contacting me first.  

DON’T FORGET: most of our renters are paying customers. Without them wewould have to pull a lot more $ out of wallets to support Trinity.
