Phlebotomy Technician Phlebotomy technicians, or phlebotomists, are technicians trained to draw blood accurately and

correctly. The job involves both patient laboratory work and clinical care.

About half of all medical technicians work in hospitals. Others work in:

Doctors’ offices

Private clinics

Community health clinics

Mobile health clinics

Nursing homes

Public health agencies

Blood banks

What are typical job responsibilities?

The job of a phlebotomist is to draw blood as painlessly as possible while making the patient feel

comfortable during the procedure. A phlebotomy technician’s job combines both medical

laboratory work and direct interaction with patients.

Phlebotomy Technician Program A 136-hour comprehensive course, one of our Allied Health professional programs which

provide hands on training with direct patient care within their regulated scope of practice.

Program prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for laboratory analysis.

Students will become familiar with all aspects of blood collection and develop comprehensive

skills to perform venipuncture competently and safely. Classroom work includes terminology,

anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, specimen hands on practice, and clinical

training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. The program also includes lab

exercises. Students will work with training arm and other exercises intended to prepare them to

function as an entry level phlebotomy technician. The curriculum is designed to provide the

educational information and competencies required by ASCP, American Society of Clinical

Patholog and the National Center for Competency Testing, NCCT.

Medical Billers and Coders classify health information to obtain insurance reimbursement for the

healthcare provider’s expenses. They review documents for completeness and accuracy and

Patient Care Technician

This 322-hour comprehensive course one of our Allied Health professional programs which

provide hands on training with direct patient care within their regulated scope of practice. They

perform basic nursing assistant tasks (as delegated by the nursing or medical staff) which may

include obtaining patient vital signs and other data, communicating with the healthcare team

and patients, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), complying with confidentiality

requirements, performing ECGs and Phlebotomy tasks. Completers of this program are eligible

to sit for the national examination through the NCCT, National Center for Competency Testing.

Note: For students enrolled in the Patient Care Technician program, additional certificates are

available. EKG Technician Certification, Phlebotomy Technician with completion of a clinical

CJLE 1006 Basic Peace Officer Course

Cedar Valley College's Law Enforcement Academy is licensed by the Texas Commission on

Law Enforcement (TCOLE) to provide the Texas Basic Peace Officer's Course #1000. The Law

Enforcement Academy prepares individuals for law enforcement careers by preparing them to

take the Texas Peace Officer Certification Examination upon successful completion of the course

of study.

Students must meet state regulations to interview and are subjected to a background investigation

to include a Personal History Statement, a Fingerprint Check, a Physical, a Drug Screen and a

Law Enforcement Officer In-Service Courses

Cedar Valley College's Law Enforcement Academy is licensed by the Texas Commission on

Law Enforcement (TCOLE) to provide In-Service training courses to current licensed Police

Officers. The current training cycle for Officers is from September 1, 2015 - August 31, 2017.

All requirements must be met during that time frame.

Online registration is restricted for these courses. Licensed Peace Officers who have met state

requirements for eligibility must register through the Law Enforcement Academy. A current

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)

ESL: LANGUAGE IMPROVEMENT: LEVEL I (Beginner)

This course is the beginning level program in English as a Second Language for the non-native

speaker. Emphasis is on developing the student’s basic speaking skills for use in the workplace

and community by increasing vocabulary and grammatical accuracy. Textbook/workbook

required.

ESL: MEJORAR EL IDIOMA: NIVEL I (BASICO)

Este curso es el comienzo de un programa de niveles en Inglés como Segundo Idioma. Se enfoca

en el desarrollo para el estudiante, enseñanzas básicas para su uso en el lugar de trabajo y de la

comunidad. También se practica el vocabulario y corrección gramatical. Requiere de libros de

texto / libro está disponible en la libreríade la universidad.

Prerequisite: ESL: Level 1 (Beginner) or permission from coordinator. This course is for the

individual who can speak, read and write basic level English. Conversational, listening, reading

and writing skills relevant for the workplace are further developed to provide the student with an

increased functional vocabulary range of words. Textbook/workbook required.
