All Written Event Presentation Guidelines will read as follows for 2018-2019:• Delete the entire list of allowable items; keeping the statement about
sound• Only visual aids that can be easily hand carried to the presentation by the
actual participant(s) will be permitted and the participants themselves must set up the visuals. Wheeled carts, moving straps or similar items may not be used to bring visuals into the area. Set up time is included in the total presentation time. Participants must furnish their own materials and equipment. No electrical power or internet connection will be supplied. Alternate power sources such as small generators are not allowed.• Materials appropriate to the situation may be handed to or left with the
judges. Items of monetary value may be handed to but may not be left with judges. Items such as flyers, brochures, or business cards may be handed to and/or left with the judge. No food or drink is allowed.
The Written Event Checklist will read as follows for 2018-2019:1. The Written Event Statement of Assurance and Academic Integrity must be signed by all participants and the
advisor and placed in front of the written entry.2. Entries submitted in an official DECA written event folio. Folios are available from Shop DECA. No markings, tape or
other material should be attached to the folio. One photocopy or the original types document must be submitted. Participants may keep a copy for use in the presentation.
3. Sheet protectors may not be used.4. Limited to the number of pages specified in the guidelines (plus the title page and the table of contents.)5. All pages are numbered in sequence starting with the executive summary and ending with the final page of the
appendix. Do not use separate sheets between sections or as title pages for sections.6. DELETE Major content must be at least double-spaced (not space and-a-half). Title page, table of contents, executive
summary, bibliography, appendix, footnotes, long quotes (more than three typed lines), material in tables, figures, exhibits, lists, headings, sample letters, forms, etc., may be single-spaced.
7. Entry must be typed/word processed. Handwritten corrections will be penalized including handwritten notes or charts and graphs.
8. Paper is 8 ½ x 11 inches. No fold-outs, attachments or tabs used.9. The written entry follows the outline in the Written Entry Guideline for the event. Additional subsections are
permitted in the body of the entry.10. Written Events must be printed single-sided.Also rename it to “Penalty Point Checklist.”
As a result of deleting the double-spacing requirement, change written event page requirements:• All current 30-page projects change to a maximum of 20 pages.• All current 5 and 11-page projects change to a maximum of 10

BUSINESS OPERATIONS RESEARCH
The 2018 -2019 topic for each career category is the development of a cause marketing campaign. Participants will collaborate with a local business or organization to analyze current customer perceptions of the company or organization’s corporate social responsibility. Participants will then present a plan to create a cause marketing campaign that aligns to the company or organization’s core values.
FINANCIAL CONSULTING
For 2018 -2019 you will assume the role of a financial consultant. A young professional has come to you for advice on setting a budget including recommendations on a savings plan. The young professional’s annual salary is $40,000. The young professional has student loans, wants to live a millennial lifestyle and save for the future. The young professional would like you to make recommendations for a monthly budget.
HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM PROFESSIONAL SELLING
For 2018 -2019 you will assume the role of a sales manager for a convention and visitors bureau of a major city. A potential client is interested in holding its annual conference for 4,000 attendees in your city and is meeting with you to hear about your city’s meeting package. At a minimum, you should discuss convention facilities, hotel package, potential attractions and transportation.
PROFESSIONAL SELLING
For 2018 -2019 you will assume the role of a sales representative of a security services firm. A general manager of a retail store has scheduled a meeting with you because he/she is seeking a firm to provide security services for the store. The general manager wants to learn about your firm’s services as they relate to security guards, security equipment and alarms, loss prevention strategies and more.
