How We Got Here• February 5, 2007: Mayor announces City will

investigate expansion of the Airport Economic Development Area at State of the City

• June 19, 2007: Declaratory Resolution approved by the Redevelopment Commission (legal process begins)

• June 19, 2007: Area Plan Commission approves• June 25, 2007: Common Council Approves• July 20, 2007: Redevelopment Commission

approves, expansion becomes effective• December 7, 2007: Redevelopment

Commission approves TIF budget plan for 2008, which includes funds for LaSalle Square

• RFP outlines process and requires: – Process to “be conducted as and remain a

public process through community workshops and focus group meetings.”

– Consultants to “conduct interviews with key stakeholder (public) groups to establish programmatic needs, organizational objectives and desires, and design criteria”

• Bendix Physicians Group – Joint Partnership: St. Joseph and Memorial – Internal study shows this area to be in

greatest need of additional healthcare services

– Hospitals predict operating budget short-fall

– Approached City to aid in needed building improvements due to budget short-fall

– Private company approached City with interest to develop Senior Housing at LaSalle Square

– Per developer, project will not begin until 2009 due to funding cycles

– City’s decision to support the development will hinge upon the Plan
