IV. ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

Attendance is the collaborative responsibility of students, parents, and

school personnel. The Board of Education Attendance Policy states in part,

“The frequent absence of pupils from classroom learning experiences

disrupts the continuity of the instructional process and limits the ability of

pupils to complete the prescribed curriculum requirements successfully.”

Absences from school jeopardize the pupil’s ability to satisfactorily

complete prescribed courses of study and violate New Jersey Statutes

18A:25-31 that requires children of school age to attend school regularly.

One major factor in a Student’s success in school is regular attendance. Each time a

student is absent from school, he/she misses instructional experiences that cannot be

duplicated. It is very important that you attend school every day unless you have a

medical excuse because of an illness.

When it is necessary for your child to be absent from school, please call the school on

the morning of the first day of absence. A doctor’s note must also be sent to the school

when you return giving the dates and the reason for the absence. Those students who

attend everyday will receive an award at the end of each marking period.

If your child is going to be absent from school, please call (908) 731-4273 or email

[email protected] before 9:30 am to avoid receiving a call from the robot call.

Only doctor’s notes are excused absences. Parent notes are no longer excused for

absences.

TARDIES

Tardiness to class results in a disruption of the activities and a break of the continuity

of the teaching process. Students should make every effort to get to school on time. It

is important that students develop the habit of arriving to school on time. If you arrive

after the 8:10 bell rings, you need to check into the office and pick up a tardy slip to

enter your classroom.

If you arrive to school after 8:30, you must bring a parent or guardian with you. Excessive

lateness to school will result in a meeting with administration and/or other disciplinary

actions.

X. Genesis-Parent Portal The Cedarbrook K-8 Center (Plainfield Public Schools) uses

a parent/guardian communication tool that enables you to

view your child or children’s information. This online tool is

called Genesis Parent Portal. This powerful tool will allow

you as parents/guardians to view your child’s grades/report

cards, daily attendance, communicate with their teacher, and schedule via the internet.

We are requiring you to utilize this tool in order to keep track of your child or children’s

progress.

If you are not currently signed up for the Genesis Parent Portal, come to the Main Office

to gain access. You must complete an Access Request Form as well as show picture id

to verify your identity. Once this is done, you will be sent an email, using the email

address you have provided, with your login information and instructions for using the

portal.

Finally, once you are into the portal please make sure that you and your child/children’s
