Motivate Michigan Scholarship Hello MTU friend: Please share this information with your students. Thank you! As you know, the State of Michigan has been hit very hard by this recession. CIBER Inc. along with our partners is giving you the opportunity to help improve Michigan’s economy. We would like to request your creativity and ideas on how to help restore Michigan to its former glory, and as a result, you could win one of 10 scholarships. The “Motivate Michigan” initiative is an idea-based competition designed for economic impact. It is open to students in accredited Michigan colleges and universities. Teams and individual students are encouraged to submit ideas online. The ideas will be judged on creativity, originality, practicality, and the potential economic impact to the state of Michigan. Our committee will determine the top 10 ideas which will be posted online to allow the general public to vote for the best idea. The five students that receive the most votes will then present their ideas to a panel of judges consisting of representatives from our corporate sponsors (including Comerica, Meijer, MEDC and others). Winners will receive one of ten possible scholarships ranging from 1% to 40% of the scholarship pool, which is currently at $71,000. The winning idea will undergo a feasibility test and an implementation plan will be developed, free of charge by CIBER Inc. For more information or to submit your ideas go to www.MotivateMichigan.org during the months of January and February. All entries must be submitted no later than February 26, 2010. Complete contest rules are available at http://motivatemichigan.org/rules.htm Students have always been seen as the innovators and our hope for the future. That future has finally come. Think of the next big idea and you could be a part of the economic turn-around in Michigan (and win a scholarship). Please share this information with your friends, students, associates in your network, and join us on Facebook , Twitter , & Linked-In . Thank you, and… Go Huskies! Armen J. Kabodian Vice President CIBER, Inc. 4000 Town Center, Suite 1400 Southfield , MI 48075 248-204-1721

DO YOU QUALIFY?

The Minnesota Surveyors and Engineers Society (MSES) provides scholarships to students who are Minnesota residents and who will be juniors or seniors in Civil Engineering in the next academic year. Applicants are expected to have a career interest in transportation. Job examples might include working for:

• governmental agencies (DOT’s, counties, cities, etc.), • private engineering firms providing transportation related services (consultants), • materials suppliers for the transportation industry, • working for contractors or construction companies who build transportation facilities, etc. Your work could be in any of the broad-based specialty areas that support transportation like:

• geotechnical engineering • water resources/hydraulics • transportation planning • structural engineering • environmental engineering • pavement design • roadway design • IVS (intelligent vehicle systems) • other related fields

The MSES Scholarship Committee traditionally interviews students each spring with awards granted for the following school year. However, with the logistics of your school, we will instead require an extensive personal statement, and possible phone interview (see application.) Awards are made for the full school year, paid out in August. To remain eligible for the funds during the year, the student must maintain an academic load of at least 12 credits per semester. The Scholarship Committee takes into consideration the following items in making its decisions: • Interest in the transportation field • Financial need • Academic performance (also considering things like credit load, is the person working?, etc.) Please note that you must be classified as a Minnesota Resident by your school to be eligible. Mail or fax your completed application and attached transcript by Friday, February 12, 2010 to: MSES Scholarship Chair Laura Amundson, [email protected] Parsons Brinckerhoff 510 1st Ave N Ste 550 Minneapolis, MN 55403 Phone: 612-371-0443, fax: 612-371-4410
