ceftazidime+tazobactam

1.Ceftazidime was the most effective compound tested and showed greater activity in Haemophilus influenzae, type b meningitis, than cefuroxime, latamoxef (moxalactam) and cefotaxime. (Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (1984) 13, 517-520) 2. The urinary recovery rate of ceftazidime during 24hr after the injection was three times as high as that of cefoperazone. 3. Influence of Probenecid: Concomitant administration of Probenecid did not alter either change in the serum levels with time or urine recovery rate.

. Concentration in bile and gall bladder tissues: billiard level of ceftizoxime attains peak faster followed by faster decrease, where as with ceftazidime , the peak level was found at about 4h and bile level showed tendency towards slower decrease. Hence make ceftazidime ideal choice for biliary and gall bladder infections. (Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (1983) 12, Suppl. A, 255-262)5. Addition of tazobactam, particularly to ceftazidime, reduced both MIC and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) values by inhibiting Betalactamases such as, Group 1 Cephalosporinases, Group 2br TEM-Betalactamases and Group 3 Metallo- Betalactamases. (J. E. CORKILL C. A. HART, Royal Liverpool Hospital,, University Department of Medical Microbiology, Present Street, Liverpool L7 8XP, Merstyside. UK).

6. The composition containing Ceftazidime and Tazobactum can be combined with yet another drug, Linezolid (LIZO-IV), an Oxazolidinone, a new class of antibacterial, with exceptionally good activity against MRSA, VRSA, E.faecalis and Bacteroides, wherein, Ceftazidime exhibits weaker activity.(World Intellactual property Organisation)
