September 12, 2010
Rally Day is a big day at RLC! Plan to join us to
celebrate a new year of Sunday School and
Christian Education!
We go back to two services on September 12!
Our Traditional service is at 8:30 AM
and our Blended service is at 11:00 AM.
For families with little ones, nursery care is provided
at both services.
To start off the celebration, Sunday School staff will
be installed at both services, and Bibles will be
presented to all third and sixth graders.
Next on the agenda is kicking off a great new year of Sunday
School! The nursery is open during the Education hour for infants up to age 2. Sunday School classes are offered for everyone ages 2
years old through adult.
At 9:45 AM on September 12, come to the Prince of Peace
fellowship area to register for Sunday School. Parents and children
will be able to meet their new teachers for the year, fill out registration forms, and make a nametag. You will also be invited to
see the classrooms and spend a little time getting to know
classmates and teachers.
Adult classes will start on the following dates:
September 19th - 12 Extraordinary Women of the Bible, led by Sandi Edgemon
September 19th - God Sightings
October 3rd - The Blessing, led by Russ Warren
For more information on these classes, see page 9.
Following church, join in the fun at the
Annual Congregational Picnic at Leslie Groves Park.
RLC will provide hamburgers and hot dogs and all the fixin’s,
along with lemonade and water.
Please bring a salad/side dish or dessert to share.
We’ll play some games, eat good food, and enjoy each other’s
company. It will be a great time of fun and fellowship at the park!

with Joy & Thanksliving
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Colossians 3:17 (TNIV)
The 2010 stewardship theme for RLC is
with Joy & Thanksliving.
Based on Colossians 3:17, we want to challenge all mem-
bers to increase the evidence of gratitude for all God has
done for them. Thanksliving is thanksgiving in action. For
Christians, it is doing everything in the name of the Lord
Jesus. Several activities are planned to help you develop a
more mature faith in this area of your life.
A with Joy & Thanksliving blog is set up and can be accessed
through the website, www.richlandlutheran.org
A devotional booklet is being written by fellow congregational
members
Thanksliving dinners will be hosted in various homes through-
out our neighborhoods
A Thanksliving Fair will be held at HeBrews Café on Sunday,
October 10, at 9:45 AM SAVE THE DATE!SAVE THE DATE!SAVE THE DATE!
Intended giving cards for 2011 will be dedicated during wor-
ship services October 16-17 and 23-24
Would you like to be involved with this initiative? We are looking
for more dinner hosts, Thanksliving Fair helpers, and more. Visit
the blog for more information, then contact Debbie at
[email protected] to help out.
Stewardship 2010
Music Opportunities Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Whether you like to sing, play an instrument – or would like to learn to play…..there is a place for you here at Richland
Lutheran Church!
Chancel Choir and Praise Choir rehearsals have begun. Chancel Choir sings at the 8:30 AM service and at special
services. They rehearse on Wednesdays at 6:45 PM in the choir room. Praise Choir sings at the 11:00 AM service and joins
the Chancel Choir for special services. They rehearse on Wednesdays at 8:10 PM. The only requirement is that you love to
praise God through song!
Recorder rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, the 7th of September at 5:30 PM. Recorders are a 14th Century instrument. They
are not difficult to learn and are played in ensemble. Bell Choir rehearsals also begin on Tuesday, the 7th of September at
6:45 PM. This is a good time to join, as we are all starting out. Bells are fun; the only requirements needed to play bells are
to be able to recognize two notes (and we can help you there)….and to be able to count to six!
Take time to pray about becoming part of one of these groups that are so integral to our worship here at Richland
Lutheran Church, and come to a rehearsal to check us out!
Any questions or for more information, talk to a choir member or e-mail Maria at [email protected].

Financial Update
Mike Penley and his trusty camel have made it all the way to Jordan with a new
ultrasound machine! As of Monday, August 23, $15,351 were donated to the
ultrasound project! With the $12,000 congregational commitment, there should be
enough to cover the machine and the probes needed to use with the machine. The
ultrasound machine has been ordered! Thank you for all your help!
Jordan Bound with an Ultrasound!
United Way Contributions
Did you know? You can designate
your United Way contributions to go
to the RLC Foundation!
The Call Committee met earlier this
summer to review 19 resumes, narrow down the list of candidates, view sample
sermons as requested by the committee, and considered responses to additional
questions posed to those on the shortened
list.
The committee will meet again the first
week in September to continue the proc-ess of discerning who appears to be the
best fit for Richland Lutheran Church.
Please continue to pray for the Call Com-mittee members: Ryan Ciolli, Jon Erland-
son, Dave Larkin, Kris Mitchell, Julie Penley,
and Val Silva
Call Committee Update
We’re so excited!
On behalf of the Annoor Clinic in Mafraq and the Bedouin people of Jordan, we thank you for the fantastic gift of the
ultrasound machine. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our
congregation. Thank you for being part of our mission to Jordan!

the church and family, here is an opportunity for
you! Each year the Men’s Ministry rotates members of
the Core Team that helps coordinate Men’s Ministry
activities, events, and initiatives. The Core Team is

assist in any of these roles, please contact Russ Warren
(967-5419) or indicate your interest on the yellow worship
slip in the bulletin, as the Men’s Ministry is preparing for

2010 Adult Education Classes
Twelve Extraordinary Women: Celebrated for their courage, vision, hospitality, and spiritual
giftedness, it’s no wonder women were so important to God’s plan revealed in the Old and New Testaments. It wasn’t their natural qualities that made these women extraordinary but the power of
the one true God whom they worshipped and served. In this class, based on the book Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur, you’ll learn more than fascinating information about
these women, you’ll discover-perhaps for the first time-the unmistakable chronology of God’s redemptive work in history through their lives. These women were not ancillary to His plan, they were
at the very heart of it. Join us each Sunday beginning September 19 (and yes, this class is for men
too!). Sandi Edgemon will be leading this class.
The Blessing: Giving your children the gift of unconditional love and acceptance. No matter your
age, the approval of your parents affects how you view yourself and your ability to pass that approval on to your children, spouse, and friends. Based on the best-selling book by Gary Smalley
and John Trent, this study looks at the importance of the blessing we can give to our children. This
class begins October 3 and is taught by Russ Warren.
God Sightings: We will continue to discuss our weekly God Sightings readings and what we see
God doing in the world around us every day! Join in the discussion each Sunday beginning
September 19.
