Forms are available in the back of the church. Please call our Business Manager, Veronica Hill at the rectory for questions. Thank you and God bless!

Dear Parishioners,

If you are filling out a blank donation envelope, please make sure you fill in the blanks as printed on the envelope, most importantly your name and address. We also ask that you please print your information clearly. We have many wonderful volunteers who spend hours sorting through donations and these small things help them immensely. These little efforts also ensure your donations are credited to you. We are so grateful for your generosity and want to make sure that we can give you credit for it!

Thank you and God bless!

shoulders.

cross.

4. Jesus meets His afflicted Mother causing untold anguish in the Hearts of Son and Mother.

5. The countenance of Jesus is disfigured with blood and sweat, with dust and spittle.

6. Veronica wipes His face, leaving on her towel the image of His countenance.

7. Fearing that Jesus might die on the way, the soldiers force Simon of Cyrene to carry the cross

behind Jesus.

8. Jesus speaks to weeping women: "Weep not for Me, but for yourselves and your children."

9. "If anyone is to be My disciple, let him take up his cross and follow Me."

Spiritual Fruit: Patient bearing of trials

Like many of us, Saint Alphonsus’ youthful influences molded the person he

was to become. First came the pious influence of his mother, Donna Anna. She took her

faith-based duties as a mother very seriously and taught her children a love of prayer as

well as self-denial. Donna Anna lived as an example of these qualities to the point it was

said that if not for her familial obligations she would have found her way to a convent. Each morning the children

were gathered together for prayer, catechism was a regular part of the day, weekly confession was the norm and

she recited the rosary with them before bed each night. Alphonsus learned to be faithful to the Mother of God and

maintained the practice of the special devotions in her honor that his mother taught him. It is not an exaggeration

when the saint said that whatever good there was in him as a young man he owed to the care of his mother.

Alphonsus’ father, Don Joseph Liguori, turned to private tutors to provide him the best education available in

Naples. The principal tutor was a Calabrian priest who taught Alphonsus Latin, Greek, French, Spanish and Italian

as well as history, mathematics and the essentials of physics. Later, another priest introduced him to the mysteries

of philosophy consisting mainly of cosmology and psychology. Other tutors schooled him in the elements of

sketching, painting and architecture for which he showed much talent. Later in life Alphonsus outlined the

designs of his monasteries while his paintings of religious themes were found in oratories as well as used by him

as teaching tools while on missions.

Alphonsus’ father possessed a remarkable talent and love for music which his son inherited. Alphonsus dedicated

himself to both theory and practice and developed considerable aptitude on the harpsicord and as a composer. This

is somewhat due to Don Joseph’s insistence on three hours practice a day and being known to lock both student

and teacher in the music room together to ensure honesty on the clock. As a priest and missioner Alphonsus

satisfied his love for music by composing hymns for the people he ministered to. He taught these congregations

the hymns and sang with them from the pulpit.

Keep watch here for more information on the story of this lad, trained to be a cultured Neapolitan nobleman.
