MONTH OF NOVEMBER The month of November draws to an end the liturgical calendar of the church. The Remembrance Banner for all who have died in the parish since last All Souls Day will be placed in the sanctuary of the church for the month of November. During the month of November, we remember the deceased members of our parish, our families, friends and those who no longer have anyone to pray for them. You may wish to include their names in the All Souls envelopes found at the entrances to the church. The names are offered in prayer at all the masses during the month of November. The season is also a traditional time for visiting and beautifying the graves of our loved ones.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING On behalf of our parish staff and ministries, I offer you all a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration with your family and friends. I am thankful to Christ for giving me the opportunity to serve our parish and community.

JESUS, KING OF THE UNIVERSE! This weekend is the end of the liturgical year. Luke's Gospel has been loaded with surprises: the poor are rich, sinners find salvation, the Kingdom of God is found in our midst. Here we see the greatest surprise of all. We are confronted with the crucified Jesus, whom faith tells us is King and Savior of all. The irony is that the inscription placed on the cross, perhaps in mockery, contains the profoundest of truth. As the leaders jeer, the thief crucified by his side recognizes Jesus as Messiah and King, and finds salvation. Let us worship and praise Him who is our life and eternal life! PREPARING FOR ADVENT

Where do I need a Savior in areas of my life? This is a question we need to ask ourselves to prepare for the Advent Season. Start early in reading the promises of the rich texts announcing the liberation from sin through the birth of Christ. When our hearts are open, when our hands are open, when our lips are ready to ask for freedom, healing and peace, then we are

ready to begin Advent. Don’t wait until the beginning of the Advent season, let us prepare now! BASILICA OF ST. MARY MAJOR & RELIC OF HOLY CRIB Tradition has it that the Virgin Mary herself inspired the choice of the Esquiline Hill for the church's construction. Appearing in a dream to both the Patrician John and Pope Liberius, she asked that a church be built in her honor on a site she would miraculously indicate. The Holy Crib: In the crypt under the high altar lies the celebrated relic known as the Holy Crib. A statue of Pope Pius IX kneeling before the ancient wooden pieces of the manger serves as an example to the faithful who come to see the first humble crib of the Savior. The precious crystal urn trimmed in silver, through which the faithful can venerate the relic, was designed by Giuseppe Valadier.
