Friends and Supporters,

Thank you for your dedication to providing safe, healthy,

affordable homes for those in need in our community.

In 2016, your support made it possible to answer the need

for affordable housing. We broke ground on our newest

property, Athene, which will open in November of this

year with 91 affordable homes for low-income seniors.

We also welcomed Villette Nolon as our Executive

Director. She has already leveraged her years of

experience managing companies in the private sector

to guide Imagine Housing’s strategic direction. Under

her leadership, we are poised to take on the immense

challenge of responding to the housing crisis and

achieving the scale to do so sustainably.

We know there is still a great amount of work to be done

to build the affordable housing our community needs. We

also know, with your support, we can make a difference

for our neighbors and provide a place to call home and a

fresh start on their lives.

With heartfelt thanks,

Jeff Churchill Board President

After three years on the board, I am very excited to be part

of the team developing a fresh start at Imagine Housing!

Let me share our plans with you.

First, we mark our 30 year anniversary by preparing for

growth and sustainability for the next 30 years. We are

putting new systems in place, creating new partnerships

with other service providers and developing new

communities that meet the current and future needs of

our residents.

Second, we have created a vision for the future that will

ultimately bring up to 500 new affordable homes to our

Eastside cities over the next 5 years. To signal that change,

we have developed a fresh new look to our brand.

Finally, and most importantly, we will broaden the base

of support for our residents. With your help we are able

to provide a fresh start for families, seniors and people

exiting homelessness. By providing a safe and stable home,

we offer people of all incomes the opportunity to live and

thrive on the Eastside. Join us in spreading the word about

this very important mission!

With gratitude for all you do,

Villette Nolon Executive Director

“Now that I’m housed, things have only gotten better. I feel more stable and I feel like I’m making progress with my mental health at the VA, which gives me a chance to better my quality of life”.

What Michell loves most about living in Velocity is

being able to go home every day. But there’s a lot she

loves: “There’s a really good set of people, really good staff,

it’s just nice to be here. I feel like a part of the community

here—that’s a big deal. In other places I’ve lived, they

don’t come together. Velocity offers the community

dinners, and that’s important because we are a

community, it’s about all of us.”

FriendsAllison, Nanda, and Michell met over a community meal

at Velocity and they have been practically inseparable ever

since. The three started cooking meals together, (“because

it’s hard to cook for one person!”) and now have dinner

together 2 or 3 nights a week.

They also hike, walk, camp, and explore together. They

watch each other’s companion animals when one is away,

and they host monthly BBQs on the rooftop. They take

advantage of $5 movie nights, and they even give back

by helping out at community meals. They support each

other when any of them is having a rough day. “It’s nice to

have friends that you have a lot in common with. And you

don’t have to go too far to see them, either!”

Their stories all follow a similar path: each had a good

job and a bright future, but somewhere along the way,

something unexpected and traumatic happened that

derailed their plans. They all eventually found their way

to the 3rd floor of Velocity.

Thanks to you we are able to provide supportive services that help our residents find stability and self-sufficiency.

Building for the Future Athene

We are excited to announce the much anticipated opening of

our 14th property, Athene. Construction on Athene will be

completed in December, 2017, and applications are now being

accepted. Athene is a 91-unit community in Kirkland that

will provide homes for up to 155 low-income seniors. At least

20 of those units will be set aside for seniors who are currently

homeless. The design of the apartments features many

amenities to provide a safe living environment for seniors

and services that include an on-site resident support staff,

community spaces, and easy access to community amenities

30Bellevue

We will be breaking ground in December, 2017 on

30Bellevue, which features 63 new apartment homes on

the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Campus in the Northtowne

neighborhood of Bellevue. The property will include studio,

one, two, and three bedroom units for very low income

families and individuals. Thirteen apartments will be set

aside for homeless households and 13 will be set aside for

those with a disability. The 30Bellevue community vision is

the result of a collaborative partnership between St. Luke’s

Church and Imagine Housing.

Our Future Goals

Imagine Housing builds affordable apartments and offers

a fresh start to individuals who might not otherwise have

access to a safe place to lay their head each night. The

affordable housing crisis continues to grow and we must be

a leader in finding solutions to the increased need in East

King County. Our goal is to expand our development plans

to provide over 500 affordable homes over the next five years.

Your investment in affordable housing has made this possible

and we look forward to partnering with you in the future. If

you are interested in taking a role to help us achieve this bold

goal, please join us.

2016ACHIEVEMENTREPORT

6,000 seniors in King County (44%) are renters. More than half of them are cost burdened, spending more than 30% of their income on housing costs.

LovingLife Marcel is “loving life these days.” He is a resident at

Imagine Housing’s Francis Village and is thankful to have

a place to call his own. He enjoys spending time with

his neighbors, going to community events, and hanging

out with his service dog, Duke. Marcel left New York

for Washington in 1992 at the age of 29, to establish a

relationship with his father. He has had the opportunity to

enjoy everything that the state has to offer, including water

skiing and horseback riding.

Marcel worked as a commercial driver most of his life, but

an addiction eventually caused him to lose his livelihood

and end up homeless. He started out couch surfing and

wound up living on the streets. He would look for places

to hang out during the day and worked hard to not look

homeless so that he could be inside. A nearly fatal bicycle

accident left him with a head injury and he had to relearn

how to do even basic tasks. He is still working on getting

better, but, thanks to the program at Congregations for

the Homeless, he was able to get back on track. Three

years ago he came to Francis Village, and he feels stable for

the first time in many years.

Today, Marcel is grateful to have this fresh start and feels

blessed to live in an apartment he can afford and to have a

place to rest his head every day.

“I don’t want to be outside again – I like turning lights on, turning lights off, and taking a bath…just little things that people don’t realize. It feels good putting the key in the door and locking the door when I leave.” He appreciates the staff who help him and thanks God

every day for Francis Village. He hopes to someday drive

again and is proud to have retained his commercial

license. But for now, he feels good about himself and

where he is and he works to inspire others and to teach

them to take one day at a time.
