A Stakeholders Meeting was organized at World Bank – IMF Meetings in
October 2016
The Centre has developed and circulated a survey on ‘Islamic Finance
Industry Database for OIC Member Countries’ to gather a preliminary
insight about existing data collection, compilation and dissemination
concerning Islamic finance practices in OIC member countries first in January
2017.
As of May 2018, 42 Institutions from 29 Countries have submitted the survey
responses:

Group on National Accounts (ISWGNA ) Task Force on
Islamic Finance initiated by UNSD
Task Force aims at strengthening the synergy to improve
the Islamic finance data quality and sound infrastructure

THE WAY FORWARD: IBFSTAT
1. Increasing the availability of more indicators which are related to
Islamic banking and finance industry by determination of sectoral
priorities based on the level of accessibility of data (Islamic
Banking, Islamic Capital Markets, Takaful, etc.)
2. Comprehensive analysis of the survey results after taking
responses from more countries and institutions for planning and
conducting statistical capacity building programs for countries
where there is a need for collecting, compiling and dissemination
Islamic finance data.
3. Collaboration with various stakeholders at national and
international levels to improve the Islamic finance data quality
and sound infrastructure for better data production and
dissemination.

13/2016/PAL-RES (Istanbul, 2016): Support and
expand the Program for the economic empowerment of
the Palestinian people and mobilize additional resources
for the Program through voluntary contributions
A 6-stage-business model with capacity development,
social safety/protection, and finance/investment
From statistical perspective, SESRIC directly
contributes to the identification of the capacities and
needs of Palestinian refugees in Turkey through
questionnaire design and orienting the pollsters for data
collection

Mapping the Landscape of Development Assistance and Cooperation in OIC Countries
DAC receives ODA figures from 86 different countries and organisations and calculates estimates for 10 countries (including Indonesia and Qatar).
6 OIC countries (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and UAE) are among the 20 non-DAC countries reporting to DAC.

• Needs and capacities identification through biannual questionnaires.
• Questionnaires are made available in three official languages of the OIC and also accessible online.
• For the biennium 2018-2019, questionnaire has been circulated in August 2017.
STATCAB SURVEY FOR BIENNIUM 2018-2019
• The Centre circulated the survey in August 2017. Reminders were sent on 4 and 23 October 2017, 12 November 2017, 3 and 12 January 2018.

SESRIC will continue to provide technical support upon the requests of the pilot countries within the framework of the project, namely:
• Study Visits and Technical Missions: Consultation through short term technical visits on survey design, methodology, sampling, etc.
• Questionnaire Review: Consultation on question wording, placement, and general flow.
• Study Design: Consultation on sample design, and data collection and management procedures.
• Analysis and Reporting: Consultation on analyzing and reporting data obtained from TQS questions, including the construction of indicators, tables, and graphs.
• Training materials and consultation for multi-country TQS and tobacco control trainings. Next Workshop on TQS planned to be held in August 2018.

“Peer Review for National Statistical Offices in the OIC
Member Countries (OIC-Peer)”
• Enhancing the credibility of the NSOs of OIC countries
• Strengthening the capacity of NSSs of OIC countries to produce high-quality
statistics.
• Reassuring stakeholders about the quality of data that the NSS produces and the
trustworthiness of the NSS.
• Encouraging OIC countries to benefit from the Peer Review mechanism to
objectively learn the strengths (including the identification of innovative
practices) and weaknesses of their NSOs and to get effective recommendations
to improve their systems.
OIC-PEER INCLINATION SURVEY (OPRIS)
• The Centre circulated a survey in January 2017 called ‘OIC-Peer Review Inclination Survey (OPRIS)’ to the NSO of OIC Member Countries with the aim to learn the current situation on the implementation of Peer Reviews. Reminders were sent on 17 February, 6 March, 24 March, and 19 April 2017.
• As of December 2017, 25 countries have submitted the completed survey.

OIC-CPOS PROGRAMME: E-LEARNING
STATISTICAL OUTREACH TOOLKIT
• This project aims at developing a generic guide in a
Statistical Outreach Toolkit (SOT) format to assist the
National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of OIC member
countries in structuring strategies concerning their
outreach activities not only through traditional channels
but also especially through emerging ones and
engagement with a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
• A Workshop is planned to be held in 2018 with the aim
to draw the outline and discuss the content of the SOT
together with the potential contributors/experts from
National/international agencies including UNECE,
PARIS21, Eurostat, TurkStat, Anadolu Agency, etc.

The UNSD invited SESRIC to be the Founding Members on
1 November 2017.
Established on 5 January 2018.
Overall objective: to facilitate collaboration among members
of the network in the delivery of trainings on statistics in a
more harmonized and standardized manner.
SESRIC attended the first meeting of GIST on 8 March 2018
in New York, USA.
