Australian Tapestry Workshop ! Whose art is it? Collaboration or appropriation?

!  Thursday 15 August, 2013 5.00-7.00pm

!  In this session, you will have the unique opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the issues relating to the collaborative process. You will gain an appreciation for the operations of the Australian Tapestry Workshop and learn about the creative process from the artist-weaver’s point of view

!  The art of tapestry: the role of materials and colour technology

!  Thursday 22 August, 5.00-7.00pm

!  Learn about the innovative and sustainable materials and techniques employed in the art of tapestry weaving.

! Australian wool is dyed in-house by a specialist dyer to a palette of over 360 hues. Discover the intricacies of colour technology and material selection, and gain an insight into the processes of tapestry conservation and preservation

!  Presented by the Dax Centre with Art Education Victoria, this workshop will introduce teachers to the exciting new Dax Centre, provide a curatorial floor talk of the current exhibition

!  The Body’s Betrayal focus upon Unit 3 in both Art and Studio Arts plus highlight Art issues and Studio Arts industry contexts at the Dax Centre.

!  Each session includes drinks and nibbles from 4:30pm

AEV ANNUAL CONFERENCE Creative Futures: Visual Arts, AusVELS & the Australian Curriculum

!  Friday 15 November (National Gallery of Victoria International) & Saturday 16 November (Melbourne High School)

!  Creativity is regarded as an essential quality to foster through education.

!  The Visual Arts are cited as one of the most natural vehicles in which to nurture creativity in education. But first of all, what do we as art educators mean by creativity

Types of Presentations & Workshops !  Audio-Visual Presentation (1 hour, Friday & Saturday)

A session involving a 30 to 40-minute speaker presentation, followed by 10 to 20-minutes of questions, answers and discussion. These are presentations describing innovative or exemplary art educational practices or programs. These may be by individuals or teams of art educators. Proposals should also contribute to the conference intention of providing space for shared conversations.

!  Poster presentation (5-10 minute talk + poster, Saturday only) In presenting your work with a poster, you are expected to use the poster as a means for generating active discussion of the work.

!  Pecha Kucha Presentation (7 minutes, Friday & Saturday) Pecha Kucha is a simple presentation format where you show 20 slides, each for 20 seconds. The slides advance automatically and you talk along to the slides.

!  Practical Workshops (2 hours, Saturday only) This is a studio based conference session involving art practice. Substantial participant interaction should address innovative or exemplary practice, skills, techniques and/or new technologies
