YEARS OFEXCELLENCE
CELEBRATING ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE
South Africa is aptly called the Rainbow naon — a term coined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu aer South Africa's first fully democrac elecon in 1994 — because of our diversity. In the 1990’s we all trusted that diversity would give impetus to restuon, equality and growth.
Hailing from a disadvantaged background we exuberantly started our own company in 1999, driven by a belief that we would be regarded as equals among our peers, however, this in itself became our biggest challenge. The challenge of geng clients to believe that we were equal to the task would take considerable me to overcome.
Today, when I look back over the past twenty years, I am proud of what we've achieved — building a company with humility and perseverance. We did it by always seng out to exceed our clients’ expectaons, building respecul relaonships with our peers and by sourcing the right experse to complement our own. Against all odds — despite an environment of sfling procurement legislaon, takeover bids from internaonal companies, recessions and the fragmentaon of the construcon industry — Lyners has grown steadfastly into a sizeable, dynamic and diversified pracce.
We have never strived to be the biggest company, but rather to be the best in our day-to-day offerings. Our primary goal is to have sasfied clients and competent, dedicated and enthusiasc employees. Our mission is to remain CARING, INNOVATIVE and FOCUSSED in our quest to help eliminate poverty and reduce inequality in this beauful South Africa — the country that we love and call home.

The shareholders, management and some of the Bellville and Paarl staff of Lyners
celebrated the company’s 20th Anniversary by having a social get-together and to
reminisce about the past 20 years. Lyners believes it will remain one of the brightest
stars among professions in the built environment for the next 20 years.
LYNERS IS A DYNAMIC & EXPANDING COMPANY
Lyners has twenty years’ experience in providing consulng and project management

VALUES & VISION
At Lyners we have always upheld a
strong set of core values. These values
include respect for clients,
sub-consultants, communies,
contractors and personnel and a belief
in professionalism, integrity and ethical
behaviour under all circumstances.
Openness, honesty, confidenality,
discreon and excellence are all values
that form the bedrock of the
company’s value system.
We are commied to exceeding our
clients’ expectaons for outstanding
service and sustainability. Our culture
of self-evaluaon, self-development
and post-contract reviews has allowed
us to not only stay relevant in our
industry, but also to become leaders in
our field.
In 2015 Lyners embarked on an extensive
restructuring programme that involved all
personnel. The goal was to reformulate
the company’s brand identy, corporate
culture and to arculate our core values. In
order to do this we invited Dr Mare
Lancellas of the Strong Foundaon to audit
the whole company and to develop
leadership and personal-development
programmes for the company’s staff. Over
a six-month period we were able to
redefine Lyners’ core value, vision and
mission.
Our core value encapsulates the reason we
exist as a business. We believe that the
quality of relaonships will make a
significant difference in people’s lives.
Our vision is to help people and our clients
to turn opportunies into realies, and to
do that in a way that is both extraordinary
and sustainable.
Our mission is to bring good things to life
by building relaonships and by offering
competence, sound business principles
and excellent professional knowledge.
Core values direct behaviours and attitudes. Core values such as commitment, honesty, integrity, respect and trust are like the root system of a well-anchored tree. That which clients and colleagues experience, that which is visible, manifests as qualities such as courage, optimism, support, tenacity, maturity, humility, caring, fairness and the ability to listen.
WE OFFER CLIENTS SUPERIOR SERVICE, QUALITY WORKMANSHIP, WISDOM AND MATURITY, SUSTAINABILITY,
AND A HIGH STANDARD OF PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE.
CARING | INNOVATIVE | FOCUSSED
EMPOWERMENT & MENTORSHIP
At Lyners empowerment means much
more than achieving the highest B-BBEE
level. We believe that we have a
significant role to play in bridging the
divisions created in the past. We are
commied to creang meaningful
opportunies for learners at school
who have the potenal to become acve
parcipants in the engineering industry,
for students trying to complete their
engineering studies, and for all our current
employees, to become the best they can
within their potenal. Lyners is therefore
commied to black economic
empowerment and the development and
training of historically disadvantaged
individuals (HDIs).
THE COMPANY EARMARKS A SIZEABLE PROPORTION OF ITS PAYROLL FOR SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING OF ALL PERSONNEL, AS WELL AS INTERNSHIPS AND BURSARIES FOR HDI STUDENTS.
Our mentorship programme for engineers, technologists and technicians is an integral part of our skills
development and training programme. The company has signed the Engineering Council of South Africa’s
(ECSA) “Commitment and Undertaking” and supports ECSA’s mentorship programme for the development of
young professional and technical staff in the engineering industry.
Today the majority of the company’s equity is vested with HDIs and more than a third of our
technical and professional staff members are HDIs. We are also commied to increasing our
company’s representaon of female technical and professional staff. We are commied to
supporng emerging businesses in the built environment sector and dedicate both me and
resources to enterprise and supplier development.

LYNERS RECEIVED THE 2017 CESA AON ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AWARD IN THE CATEGORY FOR PROJECTS BETWEEN R50M AND R250M IN 2017 FOR WORK ON THE L’ORMARINS HYDRO PLANT.
CELEBRATING ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE
The civil and structural engineering construcon was completed within budget and prior to the client’s deadline for
readiness. Lyners was appointed as consulng structural and civil engineers. This included the construcon of two
turbine staons and pipelines in an environmentally sensive part of the Western Cape and in mountainous and
inaccessible areas to enable the generaon of 2.3 MW of green electricity. Approximately 1 650 return helicopter
flights were undertaken during construcon.
A small poron of the mountain stream, up to 700ℓ/s, was abstracted to generate the electricity. The project required
the design and construcon of a pipeline from a high and inaccessible part in the mountain to convey water at a
maximum flow rate of 700ℓ/s to the first turbine staon situated about 300 m below the intake point. A second pipeline
was constructed to convey water from the first turbine staon to a balancing dam or directly to a second turbine staon
situated a further 100 m lower than the first turbine staon. The design then directed the water back into the stream
below the turbine.
