/NETHEREDGEFESTIVAL

We run on a very limited budget. To be accessible to everyone we keep our event charges to a minimum, with most events being free. Our raffle provides basic funding. Please buy tickets! Donations towards the running of the festival or charity are welcome at free events.

Some events require booking in advance. Please see individual listings for details.

Nether Edge is a vibrant community made up of people from far and wide, all adding something to make our little corner of Sheffield the special place it is.

The Festival aims to showcase the talents of our wonderfully diverse residents – and, of course, to have fun together!

Our launch event at the Common Ground Community Centre on Saturday 15th September will be officially opened by the Lord Mayor Magid Magid! It will be an afternoon of fun for all the family with games, music, food and more.

There will also be a wealth of events ranging from concerts, dance and theatre, walks and talks, fitness and food, art and literature – rounding off the Festival with a wonderful Party in the Park on Sunday 23rd September.

The Festival welcomes all the residents of Nether Edge to come together and celebrate our neighbourhood.

TO THE 2018 NETHER EDGE FESTIVAL!

WHO ARE NENG?We are a charitable organisation run by a voluntary group of residents, dedicated to making Nether Edge an even better place to live in than it is already!

WHAT DO WE DO?Volunteers supported by NENG organise a number of community events, like the hugely popular Farmers’ Market. We are behind the Friends of Brincliffe Edge Woods and the popular local history group.

The Nether Edge Festival is our largest event yet!

We also take a keen interest in the environment around us (the roads, buildings, parks, verges and gardens) – working to keep it safe, tidy and healthy.

WHY DO WE DO THIS?We care about the community we live in. Each year our farmers’ markets and events raise a great deal of money for charity. This money has been donated to a wide range of local groups and charities, to help improve the lives of others and their communities. So far that’s over £75,000 and counting distributed to good causes!

HOW CAN YOU FIND OUT WHAT WE ARE DOING?Our monthly newsletter, EDGE, keeps subscribers up-to-date with news and events from Nether Edge.

If you would like to subscribe to EDGE or would like to find out how you can get involved in your community please go to www.netheredge.org.uk/the-edge

This week we welcome artist and knitter Lyn Carruthers to talk about Woolly Warriors – knitting, sewing and crocheting as disobedient objects: re-evaluating crafty contributions within our families, communities and the world.

Using examples of her own and collaborative work with poet Jill Angood, Lyn will introduce and encourage discussion about the topic. Some knitting without purpose may take place!

SUNDAY 23RD

THANK YOUA Festival of this size takes an enormous combined effort by many people. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making it all possible. Our thanks go especially to:

Everyone who is contributing to the Festival – committee members, event organisers, volunteers, supporters.

Clive Jacques at A&R Tradeprint on Abbeydale Road for kindly sponsoring this year’s posters and flyers.

Local businesses who have supported us – Rosalind Watchorn Solicitors for their kind donation, Wickwire, Kenwood Hotel and Bannerdale Osteopaths for practical support.

The many volunteers who have distributed brochures to every door in Nether Edge.

Sheffield City Council and Nether Edge Neighbourhood Group (NENG) for financial support.

Our thanks go, once again, to Leanne Mallinder (leannemallinder.co.uk) for her excellent design work for the Festival, including the programme.
