“Telling Images” Photography Show, November 2 - 25 DRA’s juried photography exhibit opens on Friday, November 2 with an Artists Reception from 7 - 10 pm. Our images tell, compel, imply, or suggest some sort of narrative or story: character, place, mood, feeling, plot, past, present, future, each richly implying a story the viewers are induced to imagine from the photographer’s visual vocabulary. Any photographic technique qualifies, from pinhole camera, to film, to digital, to collage, whether monochrome or color. The jurors are E. Brady Robinson, photographer-educator with studios in Washington, DC and Florida, and local fine art photographer John H. Brown, Jr. His work is collected worldwide. Rebecca “Becky” Arnold

On Oct. 3,2012, ourcolleague, friend, artist, member andbig supporterof the DelRay Artisans,BeckyArnold, passed away, after being diagnosed with cancerearlier this year.

I met Becky about three years agowhen I took over Prudential’s DRAGallery Without Walls (GWW) prog-ram as curator. It was inspiring to methat Becky was so enthusiastic andenergized with helping to producethe GWW. She told me this was away for her to demonstrate hersupport for all kinds of artists byencouraging them to continuecreating art and by providing themwith another place to exhibit it. Iwill cherish the times I spent withBecky producing the GWW showsand sharing our mutual love of art.

In 2013, DRA will produce andhost a benefit in honor of BeckyArnold. Please watch the DRAwebsite and newsletter for date, details and how you can help.— Drew Cariaso, Director of Curating

Art on the Avenue, Sat., Oct. 6 — DRA Children’s Activities a Success!

We turned T-Shirts into Superhero Capes and made greeting cards using stamps anddry media. The cape quality was questionable, but the kids liked it because they made it.I ran out of T-shirts! I taught the parents and children so they could make capes atbirthday parties, and the response was very positive. — Lesley Hall, Director of Volunteers

Thank You, DRA Adopt-a-Park Angels!

Each year for about the last 8 years, DRA has taken advantage of the City’s Adopt-a-Park program to reward regular clean-up of City parks with funds, and we havereceived between $800-$900 per year! We have members and friends volunteer to clean upevery weekend from April through November in the Colasanto Park adjoining the gallery, andaround the gallery through our lovely landscaping. DRA has been able to use the funds towards beauti-fication of the gallery grounds, or for general gallery funding. We extend sincere thanks to each of our volunteers — andmany of these angels did multiple weekends: Peggy Ashbrook, Kathryn Brown, Alice Eichers, Ellyn Ferguson, PaulaLantz, James Locke, Rusty Lynn, Corinne Marlowe, Jenny Nicholson, Elaine Thorp, Karen Thuermer, RonTickerhoff, Joyce Wagner, Leslie Wilder, and Margaret Wohler. — Marlin G Lord, Director of Facilities
