Huge congratulations to all our community, yet again we are one of the only schools in the area to have remained open for all pupils throughout the summer term. It is a fantastic combined effort- I would like to give special mention and praise to my wonderful staff who have carefully nurtured the children back to learning, ensuring the WG regulations have been adhered to and supported the learning and teaching both in school and on-line. June and July have been the busiest I have known. Luckily we have had many lovely activities for the children to experience, albeit safely and remaining in their ‘bubbles’. Years 4 and 5 have been able to attend their swimming lessons for three weeks. Haf Weighton, artist and friend of our school has been working with years 3 and 4 on a special Creative Lead Schools project inspired by Herbologist Royton Smith. We have had tennis lessons for years 2 and 3. Year 6 are going to have a special well-being week to mark their last year at Cogan Primary, I know they are all looking forward to it! Reception and year 1 have completed amazing assemblies for their parents and grandparents this term. We are also looking forward to Friday, when we attend the virtual Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative Award ceremony- we have a special delivery to open at the meeting, held with participants across Wales- fingers crossed! STOP PRESS WE HAVE WON FOR THE FOURTH TIME-two prizes from the Hodge Foundation £300 and the Soroptimist Society £200. A fabulous achievement once again! The following week brings, our community picnic, this year just the children. So don’t forget packed lunches for Tuesday 6 th July-there is also a special Ice- cream van coming. Thank you to the PTA for funding ice-creams for all. We are also holding fun afternoons and the Year 6 Leavers assembly will be shown virtually for parents and grandparents. Celebrations and well-being…

It’s been a busy and safe summer! Huge congratulations to all our community, yet again we are one of the only schools in the area to have remained open for

all pupils throughout the summer term. It is a fantastic combined effort- I would like to give special mention and praise to my wonderful staff who have

carefully nurtured the children back to learning, ensuring the WG regulations have been adhered to and supported the learning and teaching both in school

and on-line.

June and July have been the busiest I have known. Luckily we have had many lovely activities for the children to experience, albeit safely and remaining in

their ‘bubbles’. Years 4 and 5 have been able to attend their swimming lessons for three weeks. Haf Weighton, artist and friend of our school has been

working with years 3 and 4 on a special Creative Lead Schools project inspired by Herbologist Royton Smith. We have had tennis lessons for years 2 and 3.

Year 6 are going to have a special well-being week to mark their last year at Cogan Primary, I know they are all looking forward to it! Reception and year 1

have completed amazing assemblies for their parents and grandparents this term. We are also looking forward to Friday, when we attend the virtual Welsh

Heritage Schools Initiative Award ceremony- we have a special delivery to open at the meeting, held with participants across Wales- fingers crossed! –STOP

PRESS WE HAVE WON FOR THE FOURTH TIME-two prizes from the Hodge Foundation £300 and the Soroptimist Society £200. A fabulous achievement

once again!

The following week brings, our community picnic, this year just the children. So don’t forget packed lunches for Tuesday 6 th July-there is also a special Ice-

cream van coming. Thank you to the PTA for funding ice-creams for all. We are also holding fun afternoons and the Year 6 Leavers assembly will be shown

virtually for parents and grandparents.

Year 6 will also be having a special event after school on Thursday 15th July until 4:30pm-food and our famous Teachers vs Children Rounders match!

Looking forward to September…Our new Reception children will be visiting on 2nd and 9th July. Small groups will be coming to meet their teachers and experience their new classroom. We are very

much looking forward to welcoming them. They will be starting back on their designated days either 6th/7th/8th September, then the whole class in on the 9th

September onwards.

We have two new Learning Support Assistants joining us in September- Mrs A Reeves and Mrs G Meaton. Mrs D Holman will be joining the team in the Hearing

Resource Base. Please see over for the new staffing structure. The children will be given an opportunity to meet their new teachers in the coming weeks.

Don’t forget to check your child’s Hwb email account for their end of year report.

I want to thank you all for your input, standing together, we have been stronger. Challenges have come our way - the community of Cogan stood firm and our children

are stronger and more resilient as a result.

I wish you all a restful and enjoyable summer and look forward to a more normal September 2021.

Best wishes,

S M Sibert
