Cell Membrane• Outer
boundary of cell
• Protects the cell
• Controls what enters and leaves the cell
![Page 3: Cell Organelles Notes](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052621/557dbe8ad8b42a8f188b4e89/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Cell Wall
• Only found in plant cells
• Adds protection and support
• Made of cellulose
• Allows water and dissolved substances to pass through.
![Page 4: Cell Organelles Notes](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052621/557dbe8ad8b42a8f188b4e89/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
The Nucleus
• Controls most activities in the cell
• Contains all genetic information in the form of DNA.
![Page 5: Cell Organelles Notes](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052621/557dbe8ad8b42a8f188b4e89/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Cytoplasm
• Clear fluid within cell that contains all organelles
• Moves materials throughout the cell
![Page 6: Cell Organelles Notes](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052621/557dbe8ad8b42a8f188b4e89/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Endoplasmic Reticulum
• Series of folded membranes that form sacs or tubes
• Packages proteins for the Golgi Complex
• Rough ER has ribosomes attached; smooth ER does not have ribosomes
![Page 7: Cell Organelles Notes](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052621/557dbe8ad8b42a8f188b4e89/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Ribosomes
• Transports materials between the cytoplasm and nucleus
• Makes proteins in the cell
• May be free in cytoplasm or attached to ER (rough ER)
• Proteins are vital to life- all cells must produce them
![Page 8: Cell Organelles Notes](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052621/557dbe8ad8b42a8f188b4e89/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Golgi Complex
• Saclike membranes used for storing/ packaging of chemicals
• Cells that make saliva or mucus have many Golgi complexes
![Page 9: Cell Organelles Notes](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052621/557dbe8ad8b42a8f188b4e89/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Mitochondria
• Energy producers (“mighty mitochondria”)
• Powerhouse of the cell
• Sausage-shaped
• Many mitochondria in muscle cells
![Page 10: Cell Organelles Notes](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052621/557dbe8ad8b42a8f188b4e89/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Vacuoles
• Store food, water, or waste materials
• Plant cells have large vacuoles
![Page 11: Cell Organelles Notes](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052621/557dbe8ad8b42a8f188b4e89/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Lysosomes• Found in Golgi
complex
• Contain digestive enzymes to digest food particles & wastes
• Help white blood cells to destroy bacteria
• Clean up cell like Lysol (lysol = lysosome)
![Page 12: Cell Organelles Notes](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052621/557dbe8ad8b42a8f188b4e89/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Chloroplasts
• Organelle where photosynthesis takes place
• Chlorophyll inside chloroplast gives plant its green color
• Only in plant cells
