CEM Systems S700s is the next generation, fully integrated serial card reader and combined controller which can be deployed to control access to restricted areas or in special applications where card activation of machinery is required. CEM Systems AC2000, AC2000 Airport and AC2000 Lite are now available with a new range of integration interfaces that increase the performance, simplicity and scope of the system along with a number of features that improve functionality.

Building on the success of the CEM Systems S610 intelligent reader range and launch of the S700e and S700 Exit Reader, Johnson Controls is proud to announce the next generation of intelligent serial card readers, the CEM Systems S700s. CEM Systems S700s is part of a range of advanced, intelligent readers for use with the CEM Systems AC2000 access control and security management system. The S700s controls access to restricted areas while providing users with an innovative and future proof access control solution.

The S700s is a powerful serial card reader and controller housed in a single device. The S700s has an RS-485 serial port allowing it to communicate with the host AC2000 controller, removing the need for an additional intelligent control panel in the system design. A companion CEM Systems S700 Exit reader provides the same look, feel and security on a bi-directional door. Equipped with keypad for two-factor authentication, the S700s can provide multiple levels of verification, such as card only access or card plus PIN authentication.

Card Reader and IP Controller in One The S700s combines a multi-technology card reader with an integrated controller, an RS-485 serial port allowing it to communicate with the host AC2000 controller, and a large internal database for full off-line card validation.

Configurable Door Modes

The S700 range is a highly flexible and intelligent device. Standard Operating Modes include, but are not limited to, Door Access, Passenger (extended opening time), Equipment and Turnstile, Multi-Swipe (Two man rule) and Turnstile (pulse) mode, enabling the S700s to become a versatile device meeting many different operational requirements.

Proximity to Smart Card Migration

The S700 multi-tech version supports the simultaneous reading of traditional Proximity plus either MIFARE®, MIFARE DESFire®, or iCLASS SE smart cards. This enables existing sites using proximity cards a seamless path to migrate to a more secure smart card solution with zero system downtime and with no effect on

security. Once migrated, smart cards can then be used for other applications such as cashless vending, biometric storage, logical access and much more. The S700 reader is the perfect migration tool, allowing a seamless, cost-effective transition to smart cards over time.

CEM Systems S700s Features


Graphical Feedback The S700 range has been designed to be as user friendly as possible and guide the user though intuitive graphical messages displayed via the reader LCD. The screen provides graphical feedback, and predefined messages and icons to cardholders depending on access privileges. The S700 range also features a high intensity multi-colour LED light bar for visual feedback to the user.

Onboard Card Reading Technology

Designed to support 13.56 MHz smart card technology (MIFARE (CSN), DESFire (CSN), CEM DESFire 3DES, CEM DESFire AES, iCLASS, iCLASS SE, PicoPass) and 125 kHz HID proximity technology. A single Wiegand interface is provided to connect third party readers.

Offline Operation A full offline database is downloaded to the reader from the host server with subsequent changes to cardholder data automatically sent as updates. This ensures the reader has up-to-date card information when operating in offline mode. Alarms and transactions are recorded in offline mode are passed automatically to the AC2000 system when reader communications are re-established. This ensures zero downtime at system critical locations.


“The partner emerald has been waiting for” CEM Systems S700 Exit Reader can now work in conjunction with a CEM Systems emerald Intelligent Access Terminal providing a similar look, feel and user experience across bi-directional doors. The S700 Exit Reader as an extension to a master emerald Intelligent Access Terminal provides a combined total of features at the point of entry. The S700 Exit Reader has an onboard RS-485 connection allowing it to communicate directly with the master emerald reader, removing the need for an intelligent control panel in the system design. The RS-485 link is secured via AES encryption which ensures data transmission between the two readers cannot be deciphered.

Floatbar - Multi-language support and search AC2000 Floatbar has been enhanced with a dropdown language selection at the user login screen. The dropdown options are pulled from the .xml language files available on the user’s workstation.

The AC2000 Floatbar has also been further enhanced with a search option so that users can find applications easily. By typing the name of the sought after application, the selection list of applications is shortened to those that match the search string entered in the search field.

Personnel Report enhancement (Workstation and WEB) Improvements in displaying the ‘Primary Access’ and ‘Extra Access’ rows in the Personnel Report of AC2000 Client and AC2000 WEB. All ‘Extra Access’ rows are now shown on a single line.

Rolling Transaction Display (RTD) accessible in Security Hub RTD can now be accessed and displayed with a modern and highly intuitive user interface via the AC2000 Security Hub application. RTD features a split screen view of real-time transaction outcomes and alarms on the AC2000 access control system, providing a full audit trail of transactions viewable in one window. RTD allows operators to choose how they want to view transactions with options for ‘Simple List’, ‘Detail List’ or ‘Image List’, along with configurable audio sounds. Doors can be opened via ‘Oneshot’ command once the operator verifies the cardholder access.

Imaging library and document upload enhancements

Support for TWAIN devices has been returned to the imaging library to allow for image capture via TWAIN scanners and cameras. TWAIN support on image capture is also included on the document upload options.

The image library also supports video capture cards which have more than one (typically four) input sources.


Videology camera with synchronized flash and auto focus support The new Videology 5MP USB 2.0 ID badging camera is now supported in AC2000 for image capture. The Videology camera has a synchronized USB powered LED flash and auto focus for consistent high quality images in any environment.

Instant Extra Access – Personnel and Visitors Temporary Extra Access (TEA) start date and time fields default to the current date/time in the Personnel and Visitors applications so that the user has the option to provide extra access immediately, if selected and saved. Extra access will be removed based on the end date and time entered by the user. Please note that it is still possible to schedule a future Start Date and Time for extra access.

emerald - Audit history report An audit trail has been added for ‘Flight info’ and ‘Checklist’ selections within emerald terminals. A new emerald WEB report allows users to report on ‘Flight info’ for gate allocations and flights selected, as well as ‘Checklist’ transactions. Please note that checklists will only record details, if the questions received a ‘No’ response. The example below shows a failed Checklist report, highlighting the entry the user failed on.


AC2000 Manuals now available via AC2000 WEB Manuals stored on AC2000 CDC server are now accessible from any AC2000 Web page via a new icon.

Rolling Transaction Display (RTD) mapping tool Mapping tool allows users to add new fields and re-map existing fields in the Rolling Transaction Display.


Generate Alarms web page Generate Alarms web page has been added for use by integrators when testing the API.

When third parties are using the API to process AC2000 alarms, the web page allows them to generate all the different alarms types and large volumes of alarms. AC2000 Pelco VideoXpert interface

The AC2000 video interface for Pelco VideoXpert™ Video Management Systems (VMS) provides the ability to associate access control and any other integrated sub-system alarms with digital video clips, as well as to view live camera footage. This enables AC2000 to act as the central Security Management System (SMS).

AC2000 seamlessly integrates with Pelco VideoXpert giving the operator a range of video related facilities to generate alarm reports with recorded video playback. The interface also allows system operators to view live video feed, configure live video popup on alarm, take video snapshots, and control camera positioning. The Video popup application enables all alarms, events and associated camera footage to be displayed centrally on the AC2000 security management system, in real time as security events occur, providing cause and effect and enables the end-user to control their security responses from a single platform.

AC2000 Pelco VideoXpert Import Tool simplifies the setup of NVR servers for use with AC2000 Security Management System. All cameras on the VMS server are imported and configured automatically.

AC2000 Vingtor Stentofon AlphaCom CEM Systems is expanding its integration portfolio of intercom systems by introducing the new interface to Vingtor Stentofon AlphaCom XE servers. The AC2000 Vingtor Stentofon AlphaCom interface provides a seamless bi-directional communication between AC2000 and AlphaCom XE intercom servers and workstations, as well as their respective intercom devices.

This seamless, fully integrated solution helps simplify the day to day management of your intercom systems by providing a single user interface for intercom device management; making it easier to deploy CEM systems emerald Intelligent Access Terminals into your new or existing intercom architecture.

CEM Systems S700s Q. Will my AC2000 system support the new S700s Reader? A. The S700s is supported on AC2000 systems version 8.0 and above as default. The S700s will be available on version 7.1 systems by means of a patch. For any earlier versions of AC2000, please contact cem.info@tycoint for further information. Q. What card technologies will the internal read heads/antenna support? A. MIFARE (CSN), DESFire (CSN), CEM DESFire 3DES, CEM DESFire AES, iCLASS, iCLASS SE, HID 125Khz Proximity and PicoPass technologies will be supported onboard. Please note the appropriate model should be ordered with the appropriate card technology. All technologies are not supported simultaneously. Q. How many cardholder records and events can be stored in offline memory? A. The S700 can hold up to 250,000 cardholder records and up to 50,000 offline transactions and alarms when offline to the host AC2000 server. All stored information is passed back up to the host server when communications are re-established. Q. Does the S700s Reader support a full CEM Systems exit reader? A. Yes, the S700s supports a full S700 Exit Reader for bi-directional control. Please note the companion S700 Exit Reader card technology must match the associated master S700s reader technology. Q. Can I swap out an existing s610s Reader for an S700s Reader? A. Yes, the S700s can replace existing s610s readers. AC2000 version 8.0 Feature Pack 1 is being released for the core AC2000 product, AC2000 Airport and AC2000 Lite editions. Q. Is there an upgrade path for previous AC2000 installations (AC2000 version 7 and lower)? A. Yes, however due to the AC2000 Server core structure upgrade at AC2000 v8, the existing AC2000 database will need to be fully backed up and the AC2000 server cleared. When the server is clean, AC2000 v8 is then installed; the existing database backup will be converted into AC2000 v8 format and restored into the new AC2000 v8 system. AC2000 Workstation client software will also require re-installation. Once this has been completed, the feature pack will need to be installed. Q. My current system has a third party interface using AC2000 API. Will it still work after I upgrade to AC2000 v8.0 Feature Pack 1? A. Any AC2000 v8.0 system with an API integration will continue to work. There have been no changes to the v8.0 procedures and views in this feature pack, meaning that existing integrations will still work. Please note that several new procedures and views have been added as part of this feature pack.
