INTRODUCTION TO CENTAUR’S VISUAL

AUTHENTICATION SOFTWARE

Centaur’s visual authentication software is included free of charge with the Centaur 4.0 Access Control software. For more information, speak to your local distributor or visit our web site at www.cdvamericas.com.

Computer RequirementsThe Centaur 4.0 Access Control software, along with Centaur’s visual authentication software, is designed to operate with Microsoft® Windows® 98/2000/XP operating systems and with IBM® or IBM® compatible computers.

• Pentium 800MHz or higher

• Windows 98/2000/XP

• Centaur 4.0 Access Control software

• DCOM and Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 4.0 and service pack 1 or higher)

• MDAC 2.8 for workstation computers (available on the CD)

• Video Capture Card compatible with Windows 98/2000/NT operating systems (AGP-V3800 Pro/TVR recommended)

• 256MB RAM (512MB recommended)

• 300MB free disk space (1GB recommended)

• Network Card for connection (as required)

• CD-ROM Drive required for installation

• Super VGA Monitor

INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE

Centaur’s visual authentication software installs automatically with the Centaur 4.0 Access Control software. For more information on installing the Centaur 4.0 software, refer to the Centaur 4.0 Installation Manual.

INSTALLING THE VIDEO CAMERA

Depending on the video cameras and the switcher selected, the installation instructions will vary. An example of the connections required are shown in Figure 1-1 on page 4. For details how to program the video camera, refer to “Programming the Video Camera” on page 9.

STARTING THE SOFTWARE

1. Make sure MSDE or SQL Server is running on the computer where the Centaur software is installed. The MSDE or SQL Server icon is located on the lower right-hand portion of the screen (see Figure 2-1 on page 7). If it is not running, double-click the MSDE (SQL Server) Service Manager icon. The SQL Server Service Manager window will appear. Click the Start/Continue button. When the server is running you can close the SQL Server Service Manager window.

2. Make sure the Centaur Server Manager is running on the computer where the Centaur software is installed. If it is not, double-click the Centaur Service Manger icon. The Centaur Service Manager window will appear. Click the Start/Continue button. When the server is running you can close the Centaur Service Manager window.

3. From the computer where Centaur’s visual authentication software is installed, click Start Programs CDV AMERICAS Centaur

Administration Console FrontGuard. The FrontGuard Logon window will appear.

4. From the FrontGuard Logon window, type the appropriate Logon ID and Password. Centaur’s visual authentication software uses the same Logon ID and Password that is used for the Centaur software. The default Logon ID and Password is Admin. If you are trying to logon to another workstation on the network, type the computer’s network name in the Computer text field. Click OK. For details on creating Logon IDs and Passwords, refer to the Centaur Reference Manual.

CHAPTER 2: GETTING STARTED

WHAT’S IN THIS CHAPTER?• Procedure Overview• How to program an event• How to set up the software window• How to program the video• How to program a cardholder’s picture

Centaur’s visual authentication software uses the events that are generated in the Centaur Access Control system to retrieve a picture and/or video image to aid operators to quickly and easily identify cardholders or view the location where a specific event has occurred. This chapter explains how to set up Centaur’s visual authentication software and how the software works.

FRONTGUARD 6

PROCEDURE OVERVIEW

Centaur’s visual authentication software uses events generated in the Centaur Access Control system to provide additional security measures. Only the features of Centaur’s visual authentication software are explored in this manual. Details on the Centaur Access Control system’s features can be found in the Centaur Reference Manual.

Quick Start Programming: • Verify that MSDE is operating

• Open Centaur Service Manager, Centaur Administration Console and Centaur’s visual authentication software (click Start Programs CDV AMERICAS Centaur Administration Console FrontGuard)

• In Centaur, program the cardholder’s picture (if required) under the Photo tab in the Card Properties window

• If you are using the video feed, program the relay under the Relay and Activation tabs in the Relay Properties window. From the Events list in Centaur select the same event that will be chosen in Centaur’s visual authentication software and activate the relay in the selected event’s Properties window under the General tab in the Device Activation area and program the CCTV Point Number under the CCTV Control tab

• In Centaur’s visual authentication software, program the Event Definition and the software window

Figure 2-1: MSDE and Centaur Service Manager icons

EVENT DEFINITION

The Event Definition determines which devices and events Centaur’s visual authentication software will use as a trigger to display the applicable information on the operator’s computer screen. From the Event Definition window, select the event and the device that will initiate a response in the FrontGuard window. The event chosen must be the same event programmed in the Events list in Centaur (see “Procedure Overview” above).

How do I program the Event Definition?1. From the menu bar within Centaur’s visual authentication software, click

Options and then Event Definition.2. From the list on the left, click the desired event.3. From the list on the right, click the desired devices. 4. Click OK.

Example: If Access Granted and Door 1 are selected, a valid card presented to Door 1 will trigger Centaur’s visual authentication software to display the event, the cardholder’s picture and the video image from the location (see Figure 2-2 and Figure 2-3 on page 9).

CAMERA SETTINGS

The Source, Display and Format settings in the Video selection within the Options menu will vary depending on the video card installed in the computer running Centaur’s visual authentication software. Refer to the video card’s instructions for more details.

PROGRAMMING THE VIDEO CAMERA

When the event programmed in Centaur’s visual authentication software occurs in the Centaur system, the video will automatically display a video image from the camera at the event’s location. For this feature to function, the event chosen in the Event Definition window (see “Event Definition” on page 7) must be the same as the event set for the relay in Centaur (refer to Relays and Events in the Centaur Reference Manual).

How do I program the relay in Centaur? From the Centaur Administration Console:1. In the Relay Properties window, program the relay under the Relay

tab and the Activation tab.2. From the Events tree, select the same event as chosen in the visual

authentication software’s Event Definition window. Within the event’s Properties window, complete the programming in the Device Activation area.

FRONTGUARD 9

PROGRAMMING THE PICTURE

If you want the cardholder’s picture to appear in the FrontGuard window when the programmed event occurs, a graphic (JPEG or bitmap image) must be associated with the card. From the Centaur Administration Console, program the cardholder’s picture under the Photo tab in the Card Properties window. For more information concerning this feature, refer to the Centaur Reference Manual.

SETTING UP THE FRONTGUARD WINDOW

The FrontGuard window will show the event display, and the cardholder’s picture and/or an image from the CCTV video camera from the event’s location (refer to Figure 2-4 on page 11). Please note that the event display will always appear.

Depending on the event and device chosen, Centaur’s visual authentication software will display:

• The event, its origin and time of occurrence (see “Event Definition” on page 7). The screen can display about 1,000 events. As new events occur, the oldest are removed from the screen. When Centaur’s visual authentication software closes, the event display is cleared of all events.

• The cardholder’s picture on the screen (see “Programming the Picture” on page 10).

• An image from the CCTV video camera at the event’s location (see “Installing the Video Camera” on page 3 and “Programming the Video Camera” on page 9).

How do I set the Frontguard window?1. From the menu bar, click View.2. Click Picture Window and/or Video Window.
