THE HISTORY OF

DIABETESAn Egyptian physician – Hesy-Ra first documented frequent urination as a symptom of a mysterious disease. During this period, ancient healers noted that ants seemed to be attracted to the urine of people who had this disease.

Dobson (Britain) conclusively confirmed the presence of excess sugar in urine and blood as a cause of their sweetness & hence cause of Diabetes.

Greek Physician – Arateus described the disease as “the melting down of flesh & limbs into urine.” He coined a name for the disease – Diabetes.

Centuries later, people known as "water tasters" diagnosed diabetes by tasting the urine of people suspected to have it. If urine tasted sweet, diabetes was diagnosed.

British physician – Thomas Willis added mellitus (honey sweet) after re-discovering the sweetness of urine & blood of patients & the disease since then is known as Diabetes Mellitus.

After MBBS, Dr. Patro started his career working as Registrar at leading hospitals & during the period, he noticed that most of the patients who visited hospitals for any sort of health issue, were suffering from diabetes. Patient with diabetes need diabetes management with a multi-disciplinary support. Getting distracted with the fact & restlessness, Dr. Patro aimed to work for diabetic patients and did fellowships, training & other diplomas in the field of medicine, his special field of interest being diabetes. He has degrees and accreditation from reputed national and international institutions like John Hopkins & Boston University at USA, AIIMS & LHMC at New Delhi. As a diabetologist, his dream project focuses more on to diabetic mass.

With a sole objective of providing precise assessment of a diabetic patient's health issues & providing protocol-based treatment options, Dr. Patro & his wife, Dr. Arundhati Kar started with a small clinic named KPSPANDAN CLINIC AND DIAGNOSTICS in 2008. Under his leadership, the clinic & its team has been successfully providing expert treatment to all the patients, majorly in the field of Diabetes, Heart, Lung and Eye care for more than a decade.
