A number of weeks ago we celebrated the holiday of Simchat Torah. As is tradition, we finished

reading the Torah and immediately began reading it again. In the first sections of the Torah we learn

about the importance of building a community, a theme that repeats itself throughout the year.

Here at the Tucson JCC, we strive to build a sense of community every day. Our community is only

made stronger through the active participation of our members. There are many ways to become

involved and I encourage you all to join. Many members become volunteers, join committees, or

actively provide their feedback and suggestions. With your involvement, our community at the J will

only become stronger.

At the end of this month for the first and only time, Thanksgiving and Hanukkah will occur

simultaneously. There is a common thread in that both Hanukkah and Thanksgiving give us the

opportunity to reflect on the daily miracles that occur in our lives and to be grateful for what we

have. Additionally, the lessons of both remind us to do for others and to be generous in our actions.

This is a time for family traditions and an opportunity to reflect on what we as individuals and

families have to be thankful for. I am certainly thankful for our wonderful staff here at the Tucson

JCC, our volunteers and board, and all of our members who make our JCC a special place filled

with life and energy.

Have a happy and healthy Thanksgivukkah!

The Tucson JCC Ballroom features a Hearing Assistance

System that allows you to connect with the system via your hearing aid. How does the system work? The audio induction loop system consists of a loop of wire around the perimeter of an area that is connected to an induction loop amplifier. An input signal is provided to the induction loop amplifier and it drives an audio current through

the loop that creates a magnetic field within the looped area and induces the telecoil in a hearing aid. If you have a hearing aid,

all you need to do is switch it to the “T” position and the telecoil in the hearing aid will pick up the fluctuations in the magnetic field and convert

it into alternating currents. The alternating currents are then amplified and converted into sound by the hearing aid.

Have You Heard?

If you have a hearing aid, all you need to do is switch it to

the “T” position
