The tradition continues. The annual Harvest Festival continues to net big profits for the Owl Booster organization. Through the efforts of the classes. $10,581 was raised to benefit Hale Center athletics and school campuses, First grade candidates. Dawnielle Trotter and Brandon Gonzalez, were named Harvest Queen and King. Campus winners were: Akin Elementary-Fourth graders Ashley Hardage and Travis Bryan; Middle School-Angie Sims and Andrew Cozart; and High School-Michelle Cummings and Zane Logan.

Whirlwinds drove to the H.C. 10. Hale Center's stingy defense threw up a wall and forced Floydada to kick their first of three field goals of the night. With time running down in the thiid period Hale Center trailed 10-7.

The Whirlwinds started the final ' period in a big way completing a pass and driving to the Hale Center 9-yaidline, Hale Center's defense again rose to the occasion. Floydada could not drive any closer than to the Owl 6 and again had to settle for a 25-yaid field goal to tie the score 13·13 wKh 6:49 remaining. '

team to try their third field goal of the night. From 35·ya~s out the Floydada kicker was true giving the Winds the lead 16-13.

A veieran of OTs during the year .. the Hale Center eleven stepped up to the plate for their possession. Two runs by Johnson netted Hale Center 18-yards and gave the Owls the pigskin on the 12-yardline. Facing alourth and 7 Irom the 9·yardline, Chandler called on a seldom used play from the Owl playbook. With the defense keying on Clark. Chandler sent Joseph Bernal streaking across the back of the endzone with single coverage. Reiff, with the pose 01 a veteran, found his target and fired a missile to Bernal to end the contest.

The win ended the football careers for seniors Randal West, Joe Solis, Jason Campbell, Rocky Gomez, Amos Magallan, Nathan Moralez and Jamallh Clark.

Lions Club will again be hosting their annual Pheasant Hunt. The annual hunt will start opening day, Saturday, December 9. The season continues through Sunday, December 24.

Members of the organization will kickoff the hunt with a continental breakfast at the First Baptist Church beginning at 6:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided for by the WIFE chapterin the high school cafeteria for $7 a person.

The Lion's club has secureq permission from local farmers to hunt 6n several thousand acres of farmland. The club will provide a map of the area with permissible shooting areas. Texas Parks and Wildlife predicts an average to above average season wHh good bird populations.

Costolthe hunt is $50 per hunter wHh advance reservation that also includes the continental breakfast. The one time $50 cost is good for the entire pheasant season. Hunters registering the day of the hunt will pay a $75 fee.

Togo along with the annual hunt, Club members will also be ' raffling a shotgun. The shotgun will be a 12 gauge Over and Under Italian made, hand engraved, variable choke. Chances for the shotgun, valued at $1700, are $5 each or 5 for $20, Tickets for the shotgun can be purchased from any Cotton Center Lions Club member.

Proceeds from the hunt -and raffle wUI benefit commurllty youth and children's projects, eyeglasses for the needy and · scholarships. .

Within the next 15 days. South Plains Telephone Cooperative, Inc, (South Plains) will mail ballots to all customers in the Cotton Center exchange, After marking the ballot. customers should sign their nam~ and return the ballot to th~ Public Utility Commission of Texas. A stamped self-addressed envelope will be provided with the ballot.

Expanded Toll-Free Local Calling will allow customers in the Cotton Center exchange to call and be called by customers in the Lubbock. Plainview. Abernathy, Olton, an~ .Littlefield. exchanges. If ap~roved . all subscribers in the Colton Center exchange Will be charged an additional maximum monthly per Ime charge as follows:

Cotton Center FFA collected another prize at the National FFA Convention recently. The chapter's Agriculture Communications team was one of 19 teams competing for tile national title. The Cotton center was awarded the bronze medal for their efforts.

Team members were required to give a press release, make a graphic design for a newspaper, prepare a radio broadcast and write a news article Over the loplc given to them at the contest, "How Young Farmers Can Obtain Financing·.

Jarrad Reeves was named top Individual In the contest and was awarded a $950 scholarship and WhItney Straw was recognized for her efforts with a $500 scholarship. 1
