Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies
Solutions for California’s Advanced Technology Companies
Making it in California!
What is a CACT?
The Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies, called CACT, are a network of workforce training and technical consulting Centers located throughout California’s community colleges that help advanced technology companies compete globally with leaner operational processes and a well trained workforce.
Modern Manufacturing Challenges
• Local and Global Competition• Requirements to run leaner and quicker• Less labor, More technology, Faster adoption• Dwindling talent pool
– Shortfall of technically skilled workers– Shortage of engineers– No more shop class!
CACT Workforce Training
• CACTs are dedicated to upgrading our workforce• Because the CACTs are associated with the community colleges,
we are able to tap into a wealth of subject matter experts• Flexible and customized training
– Flexible funding (private, ETP, grants)– High-tech skills and technologies– Workshops & seminars
• Entrepreneur's Conference
– College credit and non-credit courses– Access to apprenticeships and internships
• Engineering apprenticeship starting at COC in Fall 2009• CSULA Engineering will join University Center
CACT Consulting and Technical Assistance
• We have the same goals as California businesses - - when they succeed, we succeed. – Equipment selection and justification– Industry, Professional and Process
Certifications– Lean and Six Sigma deployment– Process capability and evaluation– Quality systems audits– Links to resources and new technologies
• NCATC Membership– Access to funding opportunities– Environmental regulation compliance– Curriculum development to meet market
demands
