“The apostles gathered together with Jesus; and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught. And He said to them, “Come away by

yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (Mark 6:30-31)

It always amazes me when I read the gospels just how busy Jesus’ disciples were. It seemed that everywhere they went, throngs of people

surrounded them to receive teaching, healing, and encouragement. Many times they were so busy ministering to others that they had to force

themselves to make time for eating and sleeping. It wasn’t always easy.

We are not much different today. We all live busy lives and there is never a shortage of “things” for us to do. While we represent the risen Savior

and the life-blessing power He brings, people will naturally come to us for help and guidance. But as we do so, we must be conscious of our need

for rest. Jesus told his disciples to go to a place by themselves and rest. He told them to do this for two reasons: first, they needed rest to ensure

their own personal lives were healthy, and second, they needed rest to empower them for healthy ministry. Jesus knew that burned-out people

aren’t as effective in life or ministry.

So as we celebrate Spring , I hope and pray that each of us make time to simply rest and be refreshed by our Lord. That’s His will. But I also hope

that as we replenish our energies, we will again refocus our attention on the manifold opportunities to reach and serve the people of our

community.

A couple of these ministry opportunities are:

Your Bill Has Been Paid – this is our campaign to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. By paying for others’ meals, we share the good news

that Jesus paid the penalty of our sins on Calvary. Taking part in this ministry is literally as easy as handing a flyer to a sales clerk at the drive-thru;

they take care of the rest. Our church has a list of participating restaurants. There are several hundred tickets left, and they are good through April

4. Will you join us in sharing the gospel?

Annie Armstrong Offering – this offering goes to support North American missionaries of the SBC. Our church goal is $5,000. Will you allow the

Lord to prompt you to give to this?

Deacon Nominations – the Bible shows that deacons are a vital part of any church. As a church grows, so grows the need for more deacons. In

the foyer there are lists of current deacons and new members, and a church directory. Enclosed in this newsletter are forms for nominating new

deacons. Will you join me in praying for the Lord to reveal to us the men He has chosen for this ministry? Don’t forget to submit your nominations.

There will be a box at the information desk for nominations.

College & Career Ministry – Over the course of my time at Central Baptist Church, nothing has been more pronounced than the need for a College

& Career ministry. While reaching the youth and young adults, we have seemingly neglected the College & Career demographic. That is about to

change. I’m excited that the Lord is leading us to begin a College & Career ministry. But we need your help. There are a variety of ways you can

participate. If you’re interested or curious about this ministry, please join us at one of our meetings. As you consider your involvement, don’t forget

to pray for the Lord’s guidance and blessing.

“Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and

not become weary.” (Isaiah 40:31)

This Spring, my prayer is that the Lord will renew our strength so that we will be committed to:
