Crazy Hair Portrait

Overview: Creating a unique portrait using lines/shapes & your creativity!Estimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/marker/paint, iPad if availableActivity Explanation: This activity will review the use of lines and shapes in artIdea Examples: Don’t limit your ideas to the example…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Start with a blank paper, towards the bottom of the paper – draw a small portrait. (self-portrait or a portrait of someone else! Feel free to make it cartoonish or even anime style!) Make the person BALD to start!Outline the head/facial features in a dark color – above the head (where the hair would be, GO CREATIVE! Add lines, shapes, objects to create the CRAZIEST hair day you can imagine! If time allows, add color!

Op Art Name

Overview: Creating a unique Op Art Design Estimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/marker, iPad if availableActivity Explanation: This activity will review Op Art and the use of lines in artIdea Examples: Don’t limit your ideas to the example…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Start with a blank paper, write your name across the middle of the paper (medium size) COLOR your name in bright, bold colors! Around the outside of your name add a bubble (use a dark color) add the bubble again and again until you fill the entire page! Play around with thick lines/thin lines and adding lines close and far apart!

Pop Art Soup Can

Overview: Creating a unique Soup Can inspired by Pop Artist Andy WarholEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/marker, iPad if availableActivity Explanation: This activity will review Pop Art (Cartoon Characters!).Idea Examples: Don’t limit your ideas to the example…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Start with a blank paper, then draw a big blank Soup Can (See image below OR draw a soup can from your kitchen pantry!)

Outline the soup can in a dark color, pencil in the name of your soup brand & type of soup (BE CREATIVE – doesn’t have to be a real type of soup!) Add Color & Enjoy!

3-D Cube

Overview: Creating a 3-D cube on 2-D paperEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, ruler, crayon/color pencil/markerActivity Explanation: This activity will review one point perspective and value scale shading.Idea Examples: Don’t limit your ideas to the example…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Start with a blank paper, draw a RHOMBUS (see photos below), add 3 short vertical lines down from the corners of the rhombus, do not add a line in the back! Add lines at the bottom of the cube to match the angle at the topDraw in dividing lines – RUBIX CUBE style!Add a line for the table & outline in a dark color.ADD COLOR – think about shading/value to help with the illusion of depth

Observational Drawing: Draw what you SEE!

Overview: Stay Inside or Go Outside and Draw what you seeEstimated Time: 20-25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil and a solid surface to draw upon (book or clipboard)Activity Explanation: This activity will help you become a good observer of the world around you.Idea Examples: Don’t limit yourself to the list…expand your vision and just draw…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!

Go outside and draw a tree with all the wonderful textures

Go outside and look up at the clouds rolling by and sketch out what you see in the formations (Look

closely as the clouds change and move-what else do you see?)

Go outside and draw your front or your back yard…yes…this is a Landscape!

Not outdoor weather…stay inside and draw your pet (if you have one) while it is sitting still or sleeping

No pet…how about sketch a picture of your sibling or parent

Need something that sits still…set up objects in your room (toys, shoes, cups, even a crumpled pair of socks will make a great subject for observing…etc) - this is a Still Life (because it sits still)

Have a good time Observing your World!

1 Point Perspective/Pattern Art

Overview: Creating an artwork using Elements of ArtEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/markerActivity Explanation: This activity will help you review the Elements of Art learned earlier this year – LINE, SHAPE, PATTERN, COLORIdea Examples: Don’t limit your ideas to the example…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Start with a blank paper, lightly add 1 point ANYWHERE on the page, from the point add a variety of lines that reach the edge of the paper, add 2 or more 1 Point Perspective Shapes to connect to your dot! (to make them appear 3D) using patterns, lines, designs, fill in each background space with a unique design – LOOK around your

home for different ideas – BE CREATIVE! Outline everything in a dark colored color pencil or marker, then add color.

Op Art Line Illusion

Overview: Creating a line-filled page to create the illusion of movement and depth on a 2D surfaceEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/markerActivity Explanation: This activity will refine your Op Art knowledge.Idea Examples: Don’t limit yourself to anything on the list below…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!

Start by lightly sketching a gentle curved line in the middle of a paper, add 8 or more dots on the line

HOP your pencil starting at the edge of the paper, from dot to dot

Repeat the hops until you fill the entire paper, do above the line first, then below the line

Add Color using darker values where lines come close together and lighter values in the middle (see example below)

EXTRA – color using Primary Colors, Secondary Colors, Warm or Cool Colors, or Complementary Colors
