One of the Best Engineering Training Facilities in the UKIt is estimated that 30% of the UK’s energy requirements are imported and processed locally in Pembrokeshire. Local industry includes one oil refineries, two LNG plants, two gas-fuelled power stations, and a large oil storage unit. There is also a broad range of businesses involved in the supply chain for this sector. The College works closely with many of these clients to shape provision that matches their training needs locally and beyond.

The College is committed to delivering industry standard technology and equipment to offer up-to-date training for oil and gas professionals. Training facilities include a recent extension to the engineering wing and a unique Virtual Control Room (VCR) to train and refresh refinery operations staff with hazardous scenarios within explosive settings. Software has been developed and modified to support the LNG system and the power station system.

Pembrokeshire College has recently developed a range of modular levels in Process Safety as part of the Chevron Legacy Project.

Training Case-studies & CommentsBusiness Central at Pembrokeshire College has an established trackrecord of working with a diverse portfolio of clients and products. From developing courses with Chevron Singapore to staff training at Marks and Spencer, even teacher training in a Malaysian rainforest - there is no training challenge we cannot tackle.

CASE-STUDY Blended Learning for Malaysian FootballersPembrokeshire College developed a bespoke package for privately owned Frenz Football Academy in Malaysia. Students enrolled on a pre-iGCSE programme, developed by the College, which focused on English reading, writing and study skills. On completion students had the option to progress to a suite of blended (online and classroom) iGCSE programmes or a bespoke Key Stage Three course. The College dispatched staff to Malaysia for teacher training and organised on-going online support for both teachers and students.

COMMENTLifelong Learning Qualification for Industry“The training given has provided our employees with a lifelong qualification that makes them extremely employable. The training has been highly regarded within the water/petro-chemical industries and having our team leaders qualified puts us ahead of the competition.’ Clare Gottwaltz - HR Manager, Celvac Environmental Solutions

CASE-STUDYDelivering Oil and Gas Training in PeruPembrokeshire College sent two tutors to Peru for a two-year contract to deliver oil and gas skills training to employees who had been selected to operate a new LNG plant for the Peruvian national oil company, (COLP). The programme was based on the College’s UK oil and gas apprenticeship programme then running with the Pembroke Chevron oil refinery. The curriculum followed the Pembrokeshire College programme, using City and Guilds and Edexcel qualifications. The international department worked with a Peruvian technical college in Lima called TECSUP to deliver the training.

TECSUP staff were then trained by Pembrokeshire College staff to deliver the bulk of the programme. This required delivery of some teacher training skills as well as focus on the content and teaching methodology of the Engineering modules. Pembrokeshire College staff undertook some delivery but also monitored quality, assessment and outcomes, liaising with the awarding bodies and COLP.
