4-H Quail Forever Wildlife Habitat Project Cherokee County 4-H would like to announce another year of partnership with the local chap-ter of Quail Forever to bring you this 7th Annual 2015 Wildlife Habitat Contest. The objective of this program is to promote land stewardship amongst youth by giving them an opportunity to provide food and cover for wildlife, specifically quail, throughout the winter months.

The project will begin with a mandatory informational meeting held in February. The seed for partridge peas, provided by Murphree Seed, will be available for you to pick-up at the meeting in order to plant by the end of February/beginning of March. In late April-early May, the next round of seed will be made available for planting. This will consist of the following crops, if available for distribution: Egyptian wheat, quail haven soybeans, brown top millet, and grain sorghum. Once these crops have been planted and had time to mature throughout the summer months, we will contact you in September to make plans to judge your wildlife habitat plots. The winners will be announced at the Quail Forever Wildlife Habitat Awards Ceremony in November and they will receive the prize money awarded by the local chapter of Quail Forever.

RULES & REGULATIONS: ~Every child that participates MUST go to school in Cherokee County. ~4th-12th Grade Students are eligible to participate ~Records MUST be shown at the culmination of the project in the form of an Achievement Portfolio. Information to include in the Achievement Portfolio: when you got the seed, when the seed was planted, how the plots were planted, the crop yield, expenses, etc… (pictures are always great) ~Participants must have at least 1 acre of land available for planting
