Centre for Social Action CHRIST (Deemed to be University) mobilize and empower women group in the community to make them economically sustainable and enhance their living conditions. Self Help Group abbreviated as SHGs is the finance committee of women ranging between 10-20 people. Members of the committee will save the fixed amount of money on monthly basis and then take the loan whenever required with a little interest fixed by the group. In addition, they will be trained to develop their attitudes and self- owned responsibility of managing their SHGs. As part of the community development program, Centre for Social Action (CSA), CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has been promoting women self-help groups in its project areas. The projects are implemented in 5 different states in India namely, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh with rural, tribal and urban population. They are coming together on a planned day and time, where they given the fixed saving amount to the group, have discussion on the problems and challenges they face, provide loans to the group members based on the consent of the group members etc. they also plan income generation programs for the economic sustainability and celebrate special observation days like women’s Day.
