INTRODUCTION
Repositioning of CSTT
As per April 1, 2017, CSTT has undergone a repositioning. That is, from that date CSTT acts as the research unit
of the total Academy for Tourism (AfT) of NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences, representing the full spectrum
of academy’s research (lines) and external projects. The four research lines are Impacts of Tourism on Society,
Tourism Destination Management, Tourist Experience & Behavior, and E-tourism. As a result of the repositioning,
CSTT was strengthened with 7 senior researchers in the field of cultural heritage, destination management, online
tourism and technology, and informal economy (see section CSTT Staff and Expertise at the end of this annual
report). With this step, CSTT is aiming to further improve the synergy in its research, make a stronger connection
to education, and join forces by combining different study fields in tourism. Furthermore, researchers may mutually
reinforce each other by developing joint research plans, writing publications, and executing external projects.
Activities of CSTT
CSTT’s scientific output remained steady in 2017, with 16 reviewed papers published in high-ranked tourism
journals and a range of book chapters and conference presentations. Furthermore, CSTT contributed to a large
number of external projects and external presentations on scientific and professional conferences, and appearances
in professional and popular press, and radio/TV. Particularly, Paul Peeters generated much media attention for the
defence of his PhD thesis “Tourism's impact on climate change and its mitigation challenges: how can tourism
become 'climatically sustainable'?”
We are looking forward to new and challenging research & project opportunities in 2018!
