As we prepare for your return, I encourage you to not only join us, but invite your alumni friends tocome back to Centre. In the pages that follow, you will find a schedule full of activities to ensureHomecoming Weekend is unforgettable! This year promises to be a special one – we willremember Dr. Max Cavnes, honor distinguished alumni and outstanding athletes, cheer on our student–athletes, reconnect with professors, hear exciting musical performances throughout theweekend, and enjoy a day at Keeneland.

Dr. Max Cavnes was professor of historyfrom 1958 until his retirement in 1985,and served as dean of men from 1960until 1973.

Cavnes was a graduate of Indiana University, where he earned a bachelor’s,master’s, and doctoral degrees. Healso received a divinity degree fromYale University. He was honored byCentre with the David F. Hughes MemorialAward for outstanding teaching and is an honorary member of the AlumniAssociation.

Cavnes retired to Vermont in 1985 andremained there until his death in April2015. He was 92.
