Cell Organelles
CentriolesClick icon to add picture
• A pair of small cylindrical structure
• Composed of microtubules
• Involved in the separation of chromosomes during cell division in animal cells and protists
• Not found in plant cell
Chloroplast
Definition
• Found in some plant cells (green organelle)
• Photosynthesis takes place
• Composed of many folded layers of membrane
Image
Cytoplasm
• the contents of a cell
• It is more than 90% water
• Contain ions, salts enzymes, food molecule and other organelles other than the nucleus.
Cytosol
• The fluid component of cytoplasm
• In which organelles are located
Endoplasmic Reticulum• It is where, where most
reactions takes place
• The cell makes lipids and other chemicals,
• it sometimes has ribosomes attached.
• Involved with the production , processing, transport, and storage of materials with the cell
Image
Golgi Apparatus
• essential in packaging different products from the endoplasmic reticulum and the ribosomes into their final form.
image
Lysosomes
• membrane- bound vesicles
• Containing powerful enzymes that breakdown debris and foreign material
• Found in most animal cell
Image
Mitochondria
• Composed of many unfolded layers of membrane
• Involved in the energy transformation that release energy
Image
Nucleus
• Large organelle
• The nucleus is the control centre of the cell
• dictates what all of the other organelles do.
• The nucleus also stores the DNA.
Image
Image• Encloses the cytoplasm
in all cells
• Controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell
• Responsible for recognition, adhesion and chemical communication between cells
Plasma Membrane
Plastids
• Found only in plant cells
• Which develop from simple organelles called proplast
• Plastids include chloroplast, amyloplasts & chromplast(contain colour pigments)
Image
Ribosomes
• The nucleus is the control centre of the cell
• dictates what all of the other organelles do.
• The nucleus also stores the DNA Definition
Tonoplast
• Vacuole membrane in plant cells
• Regulates the movement of substances into and out of the vacuole.
Image
Vacuole
• found in most cells
• Plant cells: have large fluid filled vacuole
• Containing cell sap which support physical support through turgidity and storage
• In other cells vacuole maybe involved in intracellular digestion or water balance
Vesicles
• Membrane –bound organelles
• Often associated with transport in cell
Cell wall
• Found only in PLANT cells
• Gives support to the cell
• Is a second layer or “fence” like the cell membrane.
•
Location: All cells
Description: Made of microtubules - microfilaments
Function: Strengthen cell & maintains the shape
