El Jueves 12 de Mayo de 9:45am-12pm, el Dr. Diego y un grupo de doctores enseñarán CPR con un instructor certificado a cada persona interesada en aprender. Aunque todos son bienvenidos, la clase esta limitada a las primeras 15 personas que llamen al 412-325-8111. Esta clase

es en Español e Inglés, ¡y es gratis! Además, la Revisión de los Asientos Para Niños es el Domingo 15 de Mayo de 1-3:40pm en el estacionamiento de la clínica en Oakland de Dr. Diego. Ya que solamente hay espacios limitados, por favor asegúrese a registrar por llamar 412-692-6000 lo antes posible.

CPR Class and Car Seat Check If you happened to miss our CPR class a few months ago, you are in luck! On Thursday May 12 from 9:45am to 12pm, Dr. Diego and a group of doctors will be teaching CPR with a certified instructor to anyone who is interested. Although everyone is welcome to attend, the class will

be limited to the first 15 people to RSVP at 412-325-8111. This class will be taught in both Spanish and English, and is free! In addition, the Hispanic/Latino Car Seat Check will be on Sunday May 15 from 1 to 3:40pm in the parking lot of Dr. Diego's Oakland clinic. As there are only a limited amount of slots for car seat revisions, please be sure to register ahead of time by calling 412-692-6000.

Presentación de las Platicas Comunitarias El año pasado, el Centro Latino Familiar y Casa San José fueron los anfitriones de una serie de Platicas Comunitarias a través del condado, y ahora queremos invitarlos a reunirse con nosotros el Jueves 5 de Mayo para aprender sobre los resultados y discutir las medidas que podemos tomar para reducir las barreras que nuestra comunidad Latina en frente para alcanzar metas. Hay dos reuniones, uno en Inglés para los proveedores de servicios de 10am-12pm, y uno en Español para la comunidad de 6-8pm. Ambos serán en el CLF, ¡y habrá comida!

Listening Sessions Presentation After the series of Community Talks that both the Latino Family Center and Casa San Jose held across the county last year, we would like to welcome you to join us on Thursday May 5 to learn about the results and discuss with us the possible steps we can take to help reduce the barriers that our Latino community faces in the pursuit of our goals. There are two meetings, one in English for service providers from 10am-12pm, and another in Spanish for the community from 6-8pm.Both will take place at the LFC, and there will be food!

del Mes, 11am-12pm Dr. Diego Chaves-Gnecco, pediatra en la clínica

Salud Para Niños, vendrá a hablar con familias

sobre diferentes temas relacionada con la salud de

los niños. La discusión sera después de la clase de

Ingles y será en ambos Ingles y Español.

Clases Pre-Natales Cada Jueves después del 19 de Mayo,

10am-12pm Además, la organización Birth Circle vendrá al CLF

cada jueves del mes por seis semanas para

compartir información pre-natales con las mujeres

embarazadas.

Padres Latinos Unidos en Accion Miércoles 25 de Mayo, 6pm-7:30pm ¡Ven a ser parte de este grupo de padres Latinos

que tienen niños en las escuelas públicas de

Pittsburgh! ¡Habrá cena y cuido de niños!

TeenBloc Cada Lunes del Mes, 5pm-7pm

1901 Centre Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 TeenBloc es un grupo de estudiantes que quieren

obtener cambios positivos en sus escuelas y ser

escuchados. Sus proyectos incluyen la Declaración

de los Derechos del Estudiante, cual ahora forma

parte del código de conducta estudiantil para

Pittsburgh Public Schools.

English Classes Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30am—

12:00pm Our English classes are centered around themes that

we use in everyday life. Breakfast is served at 10:00AM,

and staff from the LFC will provide childcare while class

is in session.

Parent Council Meeting Every First Friday of the month, 10am-12pm

Every Third Wednesday of the month,

5:30pm-7:30pm Join our Parent Council group! The Parent Council is

composed of a group of Latino parents enrolled at the

LFC. They assist the center in organizing events,

advocating for families, and more. Childcare and dinner

are provided!

Chat with Dr. Diego Every Thursday Before the Second Saturday

of the month, 11am-12pm Dr. Diego Chaves-Gnecco, pediatrician at the Salud

Para Niños clinic, will come to the Center to talk about

important family health issues. The discussion will be in

both Spanish and English and takes place after ESL class.

Pre-natal Classes Every Thursday after May 19, 10am-12pm In addition, the organization Birth Circle will come to

the LFC every Thursday of the month for six weeks and

share pre-natal information for pregnant women.

Latino Parents United in Action Wednesday May 25, 6pm-7:30pm Be part of this group of parents with children in

Pittsburgh Public Schools! Dinner and childcare

provided!

TeenBloc Every Monday, 5pm-7pm

1901 Centre Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 TeenBloc is a group of students that want positive

change in their schools and to be heard. Their projects

include the Student Bill of Rights, which is now a part of

the Student Code of Conduct for Pittsburgh Public

spend your weekends together? Every Saturday morning at

10am this month, the Learning Express toy store in Bakery

Square hosts a Story time event. After listening to a story,

your child can then work on making a craft to take back

home. This is a free event, and no prior sign-up is required,

so be sure to come in for some fun!

El Festival de Teatro para Niños

¡El Distrito Cultural en Downtown Pittsburgh tiene el

trigésimo Festival de Teatro para Niños de EQT este mes! El

festival tiene como objetivo atraer al teatro los niños y

familias, y también publican funciones de varias naciones,

incluyendo dos eventos de México y Perú. Además las

familias pueden explorar instalaciones publicas de arte,

participar en juegos, hacer artesanías, y tratar la Búsqueda

del Tesoro de la Parada de la Rana que incluye un premio al

final. El festival dura desde el Jueves 12 de Mayo hasta

Domingo el 15, ¡entonces hay muchos días para disfrutarse

de este evento junto con su familia!

This month, the Cultural District in Downtown

Pittsburgh is bringing back the EQT Children's Theater

Festival for its 30th year! The festival aims to engage

children and families from many different cultures in

theater, and features performances from various nations,

including two from Mexico and Peru. In addition, families

can explore child-friendly public art installations, take part

in games, make crafts, and try the Frog Stop Scavenger

Hunt that includes a prize at the end. The festival runs from

Thursday May 12th to Sunday the 15th, so there are many

days in which to experience this event together with your

family!

El mes pasado, el centro fue el anfitrión de muchos eventos divertidos. Durante nuestra Noche de

Diversión, creamos una búsqueda de huevos adentro de un cuarto llena de globos-- ¡los niños lo pasaron bien buscando los huevos! Más adelante tuvimos nuestro primera Noche de Juegos con el policía

David Shifren, en donde les enseñó a los niños como jugar el ajedrez, y entonces jugó otros juegos variados con los niños. La noche fue un éxito

maravilloso, ¡y esperamos planear otra visita de nuevo!

This past month the center hosted lots of fun events. During our Family Fun Night, we created an egg hunt in a room full of balloons hiding all of the

eggs-- the kids had a blast finding them! Later on we also held our first Game Night with Officer David

Shifren, wherein he taught the children how to play chess, and then played various other games with

them. The night was a resounding success, and we are hoping to plan another one again soon!

salariales, la protección de abuso, ó la pérdida de los beneficios públicos. Para

ayudar con esta necesidad, la Asociación de los Servicios Legales Vecindarios

(NLSA) proveen servicios de asistencia jurídica civil a las familias y individuos

de bajos ingresos, tales como el consejo, asistencia con la representación del

uno mismo, las referencias a abogados privados quien aceptan casos gratis ó

de tarifa reducida, y también la representación directa. Además, la NLSA

ofrece servicios de la interpretación gratis para la gente quienes hablan inglés

limitado ó no le hablan y también para los clientes con discapacidad auditiva.

Mientras sus especialidades legales son de los casos de los derechos de los

inquilinos y trabajadores, los beneficios públicos, la ley de la familia, y los

asuntos del consumidor, ellos también pueden conseguir asistencia gratis ó de

tarifa reducida de sus asociados legales cuando están presentado con los

casos que son fuera de sus áreas de especialización. ¡Asegurarse de llamarlos

ó visitar su oficina si alguna vez necesita!

Many legal issues exist that a lot of us have trouble navigating, such as

landlord disputes, utility shutoffs, wage claims, protection from abuse, or

loss of public benefits. To bridge that gap, the Neighborhood Legal Services

Association (NLSA) provides low-income families and individuals with civil

legal aid services, such as advice, assistance with self-representation,

referrals to private attorneys who accept free and reduced-fee cases, and

even direct representation. In addition, NLSA offers free interpretation

services both to those who speak either no or limited English, as well as for

hearing-impaired clients. While their specialties are in cases involving

tenant and worker rights, public benefits, family law, and consumer issues,

they are also able to secure either low-cost or free assistance from legal

partners when presented with a case outside their areas of expertise. Be

sure to give them a call or stop by their office should you ever need to!

Adriana Sánchez-Solís está muy contenta de formar parte del equipo del Centro Familiar Latino. Ella es originaria de Costa Rica y ha vivido en Pittsburgh por casi 6 años. Tiene muchos años de experiencia trabajando con la comunidad latina en Idaho, Washington y Pittsburgh. Ella está muy emocionada por conocerles a todas y todos en su nuevo puesto como especialista de familias.

Adriana Sánchez-Solís is very happy to join the team at the Latino Family Center. She is originally from Costa Rica and has lived in Pittsburgh for nearly 6 years. She has many years of experience working with the Latino community in Idaho, Washington and Pittsburgh. She’s looking forward to meeting everyone in her new role as Family Development Specialist.

This past week we attended the event Art All Night in Lawrenceville and we had so much fun. The Latino Family Center had a piece of art in the show! The youth from the camp Spring Amigos worked on various collages and the favorite one of the group was The Apple Tree titled “LFC Kids’ Master Piece” It was a very fun evening. Padres Como Maestros Visitas en La Casa(PAT) Este programa es para familias que tienen niños entre las edades de 0-5. Una especia-lista de familias visita a las familias por lo menos una vez por mes y trabaja con los pa-dres en el desarrollo de los hijos, usando el currículo de Padres Como Maestros (PAT por sus siglas en Inglés). El enfoque es asegurar-nos que sus hijos estén listos para entrar a la escuela!

Parents AS Teachers Home Visiting Pro-gram (PAT) This program is for families who have chil-dren between the ages of 0-5. A Family De-velopment Specialist (FDS) visits families at least once a month and works with the par-ents and the children around child develop-ment using the curriculum Parents As Teach-ers. We believe the parent is the child’s FIRST teacher. The goal for this program is to get your little ones ready to enter Kindergarten!

Immigrant Services And Connections (ISAC) This program connects immigrant families that are experiencing barriers accessing services due to language and/or cultural barriers to services in the community. This program is a six partner agency collaboration between: JF&CS, Northern Area Companies, SHIM, GPLC, Casa San Jose, and AIU Latino Family Center.
