• CEO- Chief Executive Officer- ($5.50)oversees all employees in the shop, signs the pay checks, approves the accountant’s records, and takes over for employees who are on break. She/he also has the responsibility for getting a loan from the bank and arranging for The CEO oversees the transfer of rent money from the Distribution and Mail Center and makes sure the DMC receives their collection fee. The CEO signs all employee checks with the exception of his/her own.

• Chief Financial Officer- CFO- ($5.00) The CFO is responsible for writing all the checks for professional employees as well as checks for advertising, building rent, and taxes. The CFO also signs the owner’s check and also helps the owner keep track and make deposits of company income. The CFO should have good keyboarding skills.

• Attorney- ($5.00)The attorney is responsible for representing clients who have been issued a ticket and must pay a fine. By appearing in front of the judge for a client, the attorney is often able to argue a client’s case and have the fine reduced or dismissed. Attorney’s need to be adept in the power of persuasion.

BANK• Bank President- ($6.00)The bank president makes

sure all banking activities are handled smoothly and honestly. The pres approves loan apps, fills out loan coupons, records loan payments, and signs pay checks for bank employees. He/she will fill in for tellers and file clerks as needed.

• Vice President- ($5.50)The VP is the accountant for the bank. The VP writes checks for salaries, advertising, rent and taxes. He/she fills in for tellers and file clerks as needed. The VP should have good keyboarding skills. VP signs the pres’s pay check.

BANK• File Clerks- ($5.00)The file clerk’s job is

to file all personal checks, deposit slips and business checks. ACCURATE filing is important!

• Tellers- ($5.00) The tellers work at the front of the bank. They greet the customers, cash checks, and make deposits. Tellers must be friendly, good at math, and pay close attention to detail.

• Mayor and Judge ($5.50) The mayor and judge are elected officials. They oversee the smooth running of EPC and enforce laws. They keep records and write reports. The mayor signs the paychecks for the City Hall employees. The judge is responsible for collecting fines, keeping a record of city violations, and settling any disputes that arise at EPC. At the closing town hall meeting, the judge and mayor or each expected to give a speech.

• City Manager- ($5.00) The city manager is the mayor’s assistant and serves as the accountant. His/her job is to collect taxes from the other shops. The city manager is responsible for writing paychecks. The manager also writes checks to pay for advertising, rent, and taxes. The city manager should have good keyboarding skills. The city manager makes bank deposits from money collected for taxes and fines.

• Police Officer- ($5.00) must know all the laws in EPC. He/she issues tickets to those who disobey those laws.

Distribution and Mail Center

• Manager- ($5.50)The manager oversees all employees in the shop. Manager duties include signing the pay checks, making decisions concerning advertising, and taking over for the employees who are on break. The manager also collects rent from all the shops according to the schedule posted in the DMC.

• Accountant- ($5.00) The accountant is responsible for writing pay checks for each shop employee. The accountant signs the owner’s checks and makes sure the owner signs all other checks. The accountant also deposits the payments for rent and materials to the bank. The accountants should have good keyboarding skills.

Distribution and Mail Center• Customer Service Representative- ($5.00) fills the

first orders for the shops that sell materials in EPC. He/she follows the directions on the supply card to insure that each shop receives the correct materials in the proper basket. He/she also records all checks collected from the shops. They also retrieve baskets and refills them for the 12:30 afternoon distribution to the shops.

• Mail Carrier- ($5.00) checks the mail box after everyone has had morning and lunch break. He/she sorts mail and gets ready to deliver mail to each citizen. As the mail carrier delivers the mail, he/she also delivers and EPC plastic bag to each citizen to store purchases made during the day. He/she also helps out with filling the orders for materials.

Distribution and Mail Center

• Clerk- ($5.00) sells postage to each student for $.50. The clerk collects money for the stamp, stamps each letter, and records the sale on the postage sales record sheet. The manager steps in to sell postage when the clerk is on break.

• Owner- ($5.50) oversees all employees in the Gift Shop. The owner signs the payroll checks, secures a bank loan, and makes decisions concerning advertising. The owner takes over for employees who are on break. She/he also picks up materials from the DMC and sets prices with help of employees.

• Accountant- ($5.00) The accountant is responsible for writing all the pay checks for shop employees. He/she also writes checks for materials, advertising, building rent, and taxes. The accountant signs the owner’s checks and makes sure the owner has signed all other checks. The accountant should have good keyboarding skills.

• Sales Assistants- ($4.50) The sales assistant is responsible for greeting customers and selling merchandise. She/he must like people and be friendly and persuasive. Sales assistants will also need to record and add up all sales on the sales journal.

Radio Station• Station Manager- ($5.50) oversees all

employees in the shop, signs the paychecks, secures a bank loan, and makes decisions concerning advertising. The station manager ads up advertising checks and makes loan payments to the bank president.

Radio Station• Accountant- ($5.00) The accountant is

responsible for writing pay checks for each shop employee. The accountant signs the owner’s checks and makes sure the owner signs all other checks. The accountant also deposits the payments for rent and materials to the bank. The accountants should have good keyboarding skills.

• Ad Agent- ($4.50) visits each shop to solicit advertising to be heard on the radio. The ad agent writes a receipt for money received and keeps half of each receipt for the radio station. Ad agents deliver checks and shop advertisements to the radio station manager.

Radio Station• Programmer- ($4.50) The programmer selects

the music for the day with the help of the DJ. She/he makes sure the broadcast schedule is closely followed. The programmer will take the DJ’s place when he/she goes on break.

• DJ- ($4.50) introduces the names and artists of each record. She/he needs to be entertaining and have good speaking skills. The DJ is responsible for operating equipment professionally. All music must be appropriate and approved by a teacher.

• Owner- ($5.50) oversees all employees in the Photo Shop. The owner signs the payroll checks, secures a bank loan, and makes decisions concerning advertising. The owner takes over for employees who are on break. She/he also picks up materials from the DMC and makes sure the equipment is working properly. • Technician ($4.50) collects the money from the customers and helps the photographer run the computer equipment. Computer skills are a plus!

Joke Shop• Owner- ($5.50) oversees all employees in the Joke

Shop. The owner signs the payroll checks, secures a bank loan, and makes decisions concerning advertising. The owner takes over for employees who are on break. She/he also picks up materials from the DMC and makes sure the equipment is working properly. The owner should record and add up all sales on the sales journal as well. The owner also adds up checks from sales and makes loan payments to the Bank President.

• Cook- ($4.50) The cook prepares the popcorn and lemonade for the day. She/he needs to make enough to supply the citizen’s demand for the day without making too much. Cooks must also keep the kitchen area clean and neat. Employees who handle food must wash their hands many times during th day and wear plastic gloves.

• Waiter/Waitress- ($4.50)- take orders and serve the customers. They must know the prices of all the food items. They must be pleasant, fast and accurate. They also take the money to the cashier and return the correct change to the customer.

• Cashier- ($4.50) The cashier makes sure the addition of the waiters and waitresses is correct. It is important that the cashier knows how to make correct change. The cashier must record and add up sales on the sales journal.

• Designers- ($4.50) The designers are very important to the success of the shop. They place the decals on the t-shirts using a heat press.

• Studio Manager-($5.50) oversees all employees in the shop and signs all payroll checks except his own. The manager decides on advertising and makes sure the equipment is working properly. Part of the manager’s responsibility is to ensure that the video is top quality. She/he conducts personal interviews with the citizens of the city.

• Accountant- ($5.00) The accountant is responsible for writing pay checks for each shop employees. He/she also writes checks for materials, advertising, rent, and taxes. The accountant will sign the owner’s check. The accountant should have good keyboarding skills.

• Video Photographer- ($4.50) tours the city and takes video footage of all the shops and interviews with citizens.

The owner takes over for employees who are on break. She/he also picks up materials from the DMC and makes sure the equipment is working properly. • Layout Designer ($4.50) The layout designer is responsible for placing the advertisement from each shop onto the web page.

• Owner- ($5.50) oversees all employees in the Jewelry Shop. The owner signs the payroll checks, secures a bank loan, and makes decisions concerning advertising. The owner takes over for employees who are on break. She/he also picks up materials from the DMC and makes sure the equipment is working properly. The owner should record and add up all sales on the sales journal as well. The owner also adds up checks from sales and makes loan payments to the Bank President.

Editor- ($5.50) must secure bank loan to cover expenses. The editor makes decisions concerning advertising at the Radio, Web Page and the Newspaper. Other responsibilities include proofreading all the articles for spelling and grammatical errors, deciding on headlines for news articles, and making sure all the work runs smoothly. The editor will record the pre-sales of the newspaper. Also, the editor adds up checks from advertising sales and newspaper sales to make loan payments to the Bank Pres. Frequently the editor will have the lead story already written before she/he arrives, but articles may be written on the newsroom computer as well.

• Accountant- ($5.00) The accountant is responsible for writing pay checks for each shop employees. He/she also writes checks for materials, advertising, rent, and taxes. The accountant will sign the owner’s check. The accountant should have good keyboarding skills.

• Ad Agents- ($5.00) The ad agents call on each business to collect the money and advertisement to be used in the paper. Ad agents should write a receipt for the money collected from each business and keep half of the receipt for Newspaper records.

• News Reporter- ($5.00) The news reporter visits business with pad and pencil to gather interesting stories about the citizens and businesses of EPC. Stories can be about people who work in the city or about goods and services that are sold. Completed stories are given to the layout printer to put on the computer.

• Layout Printer- ($5.00) types the info on the computer and uses the cut and paste options, or paper templates, scissors and a glue stick as needed to create the newspaper skeleton. EC staff will collect 10 pages or less of the newspaper at 1:00 pm and return the finished paper after copying and stapling it.
