CEO's CornerThese are exciting times at Innovative and I am very pleased to announce that wehave acquired VTLS, a leader in providing practical, scalable solutions to thelibrary community for more than 30 years.
Headquartered in Blacksburg, Virginia, VTLS has a diverse customer base of morethan 2,100 libraries in 44 countries with a strong family of library technologyproducts including Virtua, and VITAL.
We believe that the acquisition of VTLS will allow Innovative to better serve theglobal library community with a strengthened international presence and broaderproduct mix.
Advanced Technology Expertise Comes with VTLSWe have always appreciated the advanced technology expertise shown by Dr.Vinod Chachra and the entire VTLS team and the unique position that thecompany has enjoyed in the library community. We’re looking forward to fullyengaging with them in the weeks to come and sharing knowledge and bestpractices to benefit all our customers.
Speaking of Vinod, I'm very pleased to say that Dr. Chachra will be joiningInnovative as VP for Global Expansion to ensure a smooth transition for VTLSlibraries. Other members of the VTLS development, support and sales teams willbe joining the Innovative management group.
VTLS’s current offices in Blacksburg, Virginia, Barcelona, Spain, and KualaLumpur (Selangor), Malaysia will be retained and become Innovative centers foroperations along with our other major offices in Emeryville, Syracuse, Dublin, andNoida.
Commitment to Supporting all Our CustomersInnovative is fully committed to supporting all our customers, including our newlibraries on the VTLS platform. We intend to be as transparent as possible with ourproduct plans and our goal will be to provide a clear product roadmap, includingthe VTLS products, within the next month.
The leadership teams for both companies thought it was important that we retainthe recognition and trust that VTLS has built over the years by continuing the VTLSbrand within the Innovative product portfolio. So, as we integrate the twocompanies, the VTLS products will be rebranded, incorporating the companyname into the product name including VTLSVirtua, VTLSVITAL, and VTLSChamo Discovery.
Welcoming VTLS Libraries to the Innovative FamilyOverall, we think that bringing the two companies together will allow us to combinebest practices, expand our product portfolio, and better support all our customersworldwide. Innovative now supports an installed base of over 2,400 librarysystems in 66 countries and employs more than 500 staff members worldwide,including 150 librarians.

Innovative Sponsors 22nd Annual Innovative UsersGroup Conference
For the 22nd year, Innovative was the major sponsor of theInnovative Users Group annual conference. From May 6through 9, more than 1,000 attendees flocked to Detroit,Michigan to gather new ideas, share best practices, andnetwork with fellow users and Innovative staff. This year,more than 70 Innovative staff—including severalcolleagues from our new Syracuse office—attended IUG.
As sponsor, Innovative provided invaluable financialsupport to the IUG and provided sponsorship for parties;receptions for International users and DevelopmentPartners; the keynote speaker; and exhibits. ProductManagers and Support staff offered sessions and QuickHits Theater presentations on our products, Support hostedthe popular Hall of Solutions where customers could speakto a Support specialist on open tickets, Sales, ProductManagement, and Library Relations Management staffshowed off current, upcoming, and “dream” products. Thatevening, staff and attendees packed the hotel ballroomwith our everpopular Dessert Reception.
At the Opening Session, CEO Kim Massana spoke abouthow far we’ve come since last year’s IUG and showed a video that highlighted his activity—and that ofstaff and customers—over the last year. The video was set to the 1966 hit “Get Ready” by theTemptations, a famed Detroit musical group. Massana also recognized the 18 customers who wereattending their 15th IUG with a Crystal Award.
Keynote speaker Amy Dickinson, who pens "Ask Amy: Advice for the Real World" for The ChicagoTribune, shared poignant experiences and offered advice to librarians such as “stay curious.” Shemoved the attendees to both laugh and shed a few tears. Innovative presented a check to her literacyfoundation.

Staff gave customers permission to dream big at the IUG Technology Spotlight booth. Innovativepromoted the concept of "Who knows where we can go together?!"
Thanks to Analisa Ornelas for being the brains behind the whole operation and for engaging witheveryone who came to the booth; Robert McCain for being a mad scientist and letting us borrow histoys; Devan for being a starlet; and Annette, for providing the skills to make our amateurcinematography into an amusing video.

A Library of Our Own
Coming soon: Innovative will open its own selfservice library! The collection includes fiction, businessand computer books. We’re using the Sierra Library Services Platform for cataloging, circulation andthe WebPAC. New Videos
Innovative has produced even more videos to engage customers andprospective partners with our activities as a company. Innovativepromotes these videos to customers through direct emails, our INNBrief eNewsletter, social media and YouTube.
You can see two new videos posted to YouTube recently: The SierraStory, an INNVision Product Talk; and Mobile Worklists, the first in aseries of productdemo videos. Innovative also posted the The SierraStory in Chinese to our corporate website.

Bike to Work Day
Bike to Work Day 2014 took place on May 8th, and Innovative staff were part of it. Many of theInnovative staff in Emeryville take advantage of the (mostly) favorable weather in the Bay Area and cutdown on pollution at the same time!

This group was just some of the participants. Usually you can see about a dozen bikes in the bike rackoutside the Emeryville office (weather permitting).
Going Social to Connect with the Library Community
Innovative’s social media presence is ramping up. We’ve had more posts and more interactions withour customers and IUG in 2014 than ever before. At press time the company’s page had over 1,716
likes and IUG attendees were particularly active on the site during their recent 2014 Conference inDetroit.

Innovative Goes Where The Library Community Goes!
Innovative staff attend over 100 events every year! It is a great way to make contact with customersaround the world as well as make new partnerships along the way. These include Innovativesponsored events such as the Library Directors Symposia, large shows like ALA Annual and CILIP inthe UK, as well as regional and state IUG meetings and libraryassociation conferences. Innovativealso attends events in EMEA, Asia, Australia, and Africa.
At FLA 2014 At IUG 2014
Recently Innovative unleashed a new small booth for modestsized events reflecting our newcorporate identity. The event was attended by Martha Gettys from Sales. It was a great way to giveindividual attention to library staff who may not make it to the larger events.
New Polaris Team and New Product Icon
Dennis Todd, Senior Sales Engineer gave a companywidedemonstration of products in the Polaris family on June 5th. Thedemo focused on an overview of the Polaris ILS and PolarisLEAP, including both staff functionality as well as a look at thediscovery tool. You can view a recording of the event here. Innovative has introduced a new logo to represent the Polaris ILSand Polaris LEAP that fit into the current corporate identity. Theicon becomes part of a complement of products developed andsupported by Innovative such as the Sierra Library Servicesplatform and VTLSVirtua.
