This programme covers practical trade skills in the following: > Use and maintenance of carpentry tools and equipment including hand tools, portable power tools, machine tools > Joints exercise > Profiles and setting out houses exercise > Levelling of building sites > Sub-floor framing > Erecting interior and exterior walls > Erecting ceilings and roofs > Making framework as required > Communication > Computing, including creating a curriculum vitae > First aid > Health and safety One day each week may be spent working with building companies and contractors in the Wellington region. This gives students the opportunity to put the skills and knowledge that they are learning into practice. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Graduates of the Certificate in Carpentry seek apprenticeships as a: > Builder/carpenter QUALIFICATION Graduates gain a Certificate in Carpentry and credits towards a National Certificate in Carpentry (theory and practical).
