Check camera prerequisites
make sure camera is supported by Stratocast (see www.Stratocast.com for camera list)
check if the firmware on the camera is at least the version in the supported camera list
if camera was previously added to a VSaaS (Video Surveillance as a Service) system or the Axis
Video Hosting System, make sure it has been unregistered prior to adding to Stratocast
if camera was previously used on a video management system, perform a factory reset
make sure you have the serial number and OAK (Owner Authentication Key)
make sure the firewall ports that are used by the camera are not blocked
if using at night, make sure camera is a day/night model

The Edge subscription stores recorded
video on the camera’s memory card.
Continuous is the only recording type.
SD, SD+, HD, and HD+ subscriptions have
Stratocast storage capabilities, either
continuous or on motion.
“Camera continuous, cloud on motion”
used for video trickling – video stored on
camera memory, motion and bookmark
video copied to Stratocast storage.

Troubleshooting
Problem: Camera not connecting
• Does not change from the “waiting for connection…” to the “connected” state within 10 minutes of
hitting the one-click camera connection button or if camera is configured to always connect
(applicable for Axis cameras only)
• Six troubleshooting steps:
1. Check that the default ports are open on any network firewalls
2. Ping the Axis dispatch servers from the camera
3. Checking the camera’s default gateway
4. Checking the Axis camera’s DNS server addresses
5. Checking the camera’s server settings
6. Restoring the server settings on an Axis camera
© 2013 Genetec Inc. O FF I C I A L ST R A T O C A ST L A UN C H P A R T N E R S
Troubleshooting
Step 2 - Ping the Axis dispatch servers from the camera:
• Open a web browser and enter the following URL to ping the host name:
http://<camera_ip>/axis-cgi/pingtest.cgi?ip=dispatchse1-st.axis.com
• If the ping is successful, try to add the camera again
© 2013 Genetec Inc. O FF I C I A L ST R A T O C A ST L A UN C H P A R T N E R S
Troubleshooting
Step 2 - Ping the Axis dispatch servers from the camera:
• If you get no response, try to ping using the IP address:
http://<camera_ip>/axis-cgi/pingtest.cgi?ip=195.60.68.120
• If you can ping the dispatch servers using the IP address, there may be a problem with the Domain
Name System (DNS) – move on to step 4: checking the Axis camera’s DNS server addresses
• If you still do not get a response, check the camera’s default gateway (covered in step 3)
© 2013 Genetec Inc. O FF I C I A L ST R A T O C A ST L A UN C H P A R T N E R S
Troubleshooting
Step 3 – Checking the camera’s default gateway
• Make sure you have tried to ping the Axis dispatch servers first
• Connect to the camera’s web page
• Go to the Basic Setup section, and click on TCP/IP

Troubleshooting
Step 3 – Checking the camera’s default gateway
• In the IPv4 Address Configuration section, verify that the Default Router field has a valid IP address
• If using a static IP address instead of DHCP, important to verify the Default Router address
• Try to add the camera again; if it still will not go to the “Connected” state, move on to step 4 –
checking the DNS settings

Troubleshooting
Step 4 - Checking the Axis camera’s DNS server addresses:
• In the DNS Configuration section, select:
Obtain DNS server address via DHCP
use if your camera is using DHCP, click
“view” to verify the DNS servers used
Use the following DNS server address
select this option if your camera is not using DHCP and you know the DNS server
address; can test using the Google public DNS IP addresses – 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
• If using a static IP address, make sure you have valid DNS and NTP server addresses
• Go back to step 2 and try to ping
the Axis dispatch servers again

Troubleshooting
Step 5 – Checking the camera’s server settings
• Make sure you have attempted to ping the Axis dispatch servers and checked the camera’s default
gateway
• Connect to the camera’s web page
• Go to Setup, click on System Options, then Advanced, and Plain Config
• Under the “Select Group” drop-down menu, choose RemoteService and click on the “Select Group”

Troubleshooting
Step 5 – Checking the camera’s server settings
• In the Server List field, if you see a “Stratocastxxx.cloudapp.net” address, delete the camera from
Stratocast and try to add the camera again in 10 minutes
• If you do not see this address in the Server List field, or the camera
still will not go to a connected state after adding the camera again,
move on to step 6 – restoring the server settings on an Axis camera

Troubleshooting
Step 6 – Restoring the server settings on an Axis camera
• Verify that you have tried to ping the Axis dispatch servers, checked the camera’s default gateway,
and checked the server settings for the camera
• Connect to the camera’s web page
• Go to the Setup section, click on System Options, then Maintenance

Troubleshooting
Step 6 – Restoring the server settings on an Axis camera
• Under Maintain Server, click on Restore to reset the camera to the original factory default settings
• If you are using a static IP address, click Setup, System Options, Network, TCP/IP, Advanced and
re-enter the DNS addresses
• Try to add the camera again
• If the camera still will not change to Connected, please contact the Stratocast support team for
more assistance

Troubleshooting
Problem: Axis camera still running the Axis Video Motion Detection application
• needs to be disabled for the camera to work properly in Stratocast
• go to the camera’s web page (username: root, password: OAK with no –s, uppercase)
• under Setup, go to Applications, then Overview
• select the Axis Video Motion Detection in the Installed Applications section
• click on Stop, then Remove
• restart the camera through the web page or Stratocast

Troubleshooting
Problem: Camera disconnected (red) in Stratocast
• check if the camera has network connectivity
(go to the camera’s web page - username: root, password: OAK in uppercase with no –s)
• check if the camera is recording in Stratocast
• verify camera power connection
• hard reset the camera (unplug power for 10 seconds, then plug back in)

Troubleshooting
Problem: “Failure of the edge recording storage” email notification
• restart the camera and check the Edge recording status
• try to play a video sequence stored on the camera (not trickled video)
• back up any important video (if possible) and format the camera’s memory card
• may need to manually format the card from the camera’s web interface (if EXT4 file system is not
working, try formatting in VFAT instead)
• if still not working, replace the memory card

Troubleshooting
Problem: “Motion detected on camera” email notification when no motion present
(or no notification when there has been motion)
• check motion detection settings
• sensitivity may be too high (false motion due to noise) or too low (not picking up changes)
• motion on and off percentages may be too close (no differentiation between on and off)
• percentages may be too high or too low (motion level never passes above or below values)

Troubleshooting
Checking video stream statistics:
• click on a tile with a camera in it
• Control + Shift + A to turn on & off
• can check bit rate, frame rate, etc.
