    Information Interviews

    What is it?

An Informational Interview is a meeting (face-to-face or over the phone) in which a

potential job seeker seeks advice on their career, the industry, and the corporateculture of a potential future workplace

    Whats in it for you:

Gather information on career paths, specific companies and industries also find

employment leads, and expand your professional network.

What is in it for them:

The person being interviewed learns about a new potential hire and builds their own

network through the conversation. It also gives them a sense of giving back.

    Remember:

An Informational Interview is notasking for a job or about a job that has been

    advertised

    Direct ApproachWhat is it?

Direct Approach is the opposite of an information interview as the purpose is to introduce

yourself & sell your skillset to an organisation and ask about potential opportunities to

    work with them.

Whats in it for you:When done well, it can create opportunities that dont yet exist, or enable you to access

unadvertised jobs with far less or even no competition from other candidates.

What is in it for them:The chance to meet a suitable person to hire now or for the future. Additionally, the

convenience of filling a position without going through hundreds of applications and the

reduced cost of hire as there are no advertising or agency fees are involved.

    Remember:

Tailor your approach to each company Plan out and rehearse your telephone sales pitch

Be prepared to think on your feet

Demonstrate how you can be an asset to the company
