Levels II and III consist of essays and item sets and
are offered only in June.
Candidates may enroll for only one examination at a

CFA Study Groups
Although the CFA Program is essentially one of
individual study, study-group programs are also
available through a variety of sources, including AIMR
Member Societies and Chapters. Many CFAcandidates live in areas with a local study-group
program. Where distance makes large groups
prohibitive, candidates might organize study programs
with one or more associates in their localities.
Information on Member Society and Chapter study
groups is available in the Candidate Services section of
the AIMR Web site (www.aimr.org).
Results Reporting
Examination results are reported as “pass” or “fail.”Actual examination scores are not released. Results are
posted on the AIMR Web site and are distributed by
first-class mail (international surface mail outside of
North America), usually within 90 days of the
examination date. Examination results are never
released over the telephone. A summary of
examination results may be distributed without
candidate identification to AIMR Member Societies

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/cfa-2004-registration 7/16
If I am a candidate, am I also an AIMR member?
No. Candidates who wish to earn the CFA charter
must first join AIMR and apply for membership in an
AIMR Member Society or Chapter. You will find more
information on AIMR membership on the AIMR Web
site at www.aimr.org.
What if I do not have three years of acceptable workexperience towards the CFA charter when I register
for the CFA Program?
Provided you have met the entrance requirements for
the CFA Program, you are eligible to sit for the
examinations. Three years of acceptable work
experience must be accrued before you can earn the
charter. Work experience can be accrued before,
during, or after passing Level III.
I am calling from the accounting department of XYZ
Investments. May I verify the status of an employee's
application?
AIMR will verify the status of the payment; however,
all other information is confidential. Please have this
individual contact us directly for further assistance.
Since AIMR has a no-refund policy, may I apply my
enrollment fees to the next examination date?
Candidates cannot carry forward (defer) enrollment
fees. In addition, registration or enrollment fees
cannot be transferred from one applicant/candidate toanother applicant/candidate.
When will I receive specific details on my test center
location?
The exact location of your test center will be provided
on your examination admission ticket. Tickets are
issued in April for the June examinations and in
October for the December Level I examination.
When will I receive the examination results?
Level I results are usually distributed within 60 daysof the examination date, and Level II and III results
within 90 days. Therefore, your address, including
your e-mail address, must be current at all times.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can you provide guidance in helping me to determine
if my degree is comparable to a US bachelor’s
degree?
Generally, applicants must have reached a level of
study that qualifies them for acceptance to university
graduate programs in the countries where they earned
their undergraduate degrees. If you need assistance to
determine whether or not your degree is comparable
to a US bachelor’s degree, AIMR suggests that you
contact your college or university to make an inquiry.
Am I required to buy all the books?
AIMR does not require candidates to purchase all books
used in the curriculum, but we strongly believe that
studying the prescribed curriculum is the best way to
prepare for the examinations. Remember that the
examinations are developed directly from thecurriculum and are consistent with the Learning
Outcome Statements (LOS) prescribed by AIMR.
There is no substitute for studying the original
material.
How much time should I plan to dedicate to
preparing for the examination?
AIMR estimates that you will need to devote 10 – 15
hours per week for 18 weeks to prepare adequately for
the Level I or the Level II examination. Registering
late may place you at a disadvantage in relation to
candidates who are already enrolled and have been
studying for several months.
The questions and guideline answers to the Level II
and III essay questions are provided to candidates
both in printed form and on AIMR's Web site. Where
can I get copies of the questions and the answers for
the Level II and III item sets?
Neither the Level I questions and answers nor the
Level II and III item set questions and answers arereleased to the public. Although these actual
questions are not released to the public, the Level I
format is illustrated in the Sample Exam provided to
Level I candidates and the item set format is
explained and illustrated in the Level II and Level
III Study Guides.

CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES
Code and Standards
When you enroll in the CFA Program, and
ultimately if you are to become a CFA
charterholder, you are doing more than simply
mastering a Body of Knowledge, you are
committing to the AIMR Code of Ethics and
Standards of Professional Conduct. This
commitment is not to be taken lightly; it demands
that, above all else, you put the interests of your
clients first. There is nothing that AIMR does as an
organization that is of greater importance than
promoting the use of its Code and Standards by
investment professionals and enforcing the Code
and Standards among AIMR members and CFA
candidates. These are standards of integrity that
you must abide by as long as you are a CFAcandidate and/or an AIMR member.
Sponsors
To be awarded the CFA charter, candidates must
supply AIMR with acceptable professional sponsors.
Candidates will be provided with complete
information regarding sponsors upon enrolling for the
Level III examination.
Address and Test Center Changes
Address changes must be submitted to Information
Central via fax, mail, e-mail, or the AIMR Web site.
Failure to notify AIMR of an address change may
prevent or delay receipt of important information.
Changing your address will not change your test
center. To request a test center change, complete and
submit the Test Center Change Request form
available on AIMR’s web site. Your request must be
received in writing by AIMR at least 60 days before
the chosen examination date.
Tickets
Admission tickets for the examinations will be
distributed in April for the June examinations and
October for the December Level I examinations.
Candidates must present their ticket and a current
government-issued photo identification for admittance
on examination day. Tickets will indicate the
examination date, candidate number, candidate name,
level, test center code, room/section, and test center
address. Candidates should carefully examine their
tickets and notify AIMR immediately by phone, fax, or e-
mail of any problems. Candidates will not be permitted
entry to the testing room without a ticket and valid
identification.
Before the Examination
AIMR recommends that you visit your test center
prior to examination day to become familiar with
traffic patterns, parking availability, and public
transportation options or constraints.
Calculator Policy
Candidates are permitted to use only two models of
business calculator during the examination: either the
Texas Instruments BAII Plus or the Hewlett-Packard 12C .
You are encouraged to purchase and practice with one
of these calculators. If you wish to bring a back-up
calculator with you to the examination, it must be one
of these two models.
Both calculators are available through retail.
Purchasing information can be found on the Internet
as follows:
Texas Instruments www.education.ti.com/
Hewlett-Packard www.shopping.hp.com/
Prior to entering the testing room, all programmable
calculator memory must be cleared. Proctors are
instructed to confiscate unauthorized calculators.
Test Center Regulations
Test center supervisors and proctors enforce a number
of test center regulations to ensure that all candidates
are provided with an appropriate testing environment.
These regulations include:
• Identification. Proctors will deny admission to
anyone who does not present an acceptable form of
identification. To be considered acceptable, the
identification must be current and valid, must
contain your photo, must be issued by a government
agency and must be a single document . There are no
exceptions to this policy. AIMR’s preferred form of
identification is a valid passport.
